You should think about reading this
I’ve been thinking (overthinking, spiraling, rethinking, and then overthinking my rethinking) about buying this book for what feels like several centuries. You know how it is—everyone’s out here trying to be “more mindful” while I’m just trying not to mentally re-play that awkward thing I said in 2009. This book is basically a toolkit for escaping the overthinking hamster wheel—like a mental Swiss Army knife, but without the risk of accidentally stabbing yourself. It’s crammed with different theories and strategies that actually make sense. And the best part? It’s written in plain English, so you don’t need a PhD in Philosophy or a translator for “self-help jargon.” Very readable, very relatable, and very much worth the brain space.

Solid Actionable Strategies
“Stop overthinking” by Nick Trenton provides an overview of evidence-based methods to combat overthinking and anxiety. Trenton's expertise shines through as he provides actionable strategies to help readers break free from cycles of overthinking and regain control of their thoughts. The book is well-structured, with each chapter focusing on a specific aspect of overthinking. Trenton addresses common triggers and patterns of overthinking and provides practical techniques and exercises to counteract them. These techniques include mindfulness practices, cognitive restructuring, and self-reflection exercises, among others. By providing a variety of tools, readers are empowered to find the strategies that work best for them personally. The focus on actionable strategies means that there is relatively little space dedicated to underlying psychological theories or explanations of potential mechanisms. The case examples are also sparse and largely abstract. While some may see this as a drawback, I think the clarity of purpose adds to the book’s appeal. It’s geared towards readers who want to look up strategies rather than delve into the background. Overall, "Stop Overthinking" is an excellent resource for anyone struggling with overthinking and seeking practical strategies to regain mental clarity and peace. Whether you tend to overthink yourself or know someone who does, this book is highly recommended for its actionable advice.
