I use threaded inserts in my woodworking projects to hold knobs and what not. Before I bought this tool, I was trying to jam them in using the bolt and wrench method or a flat head screw driver. It was hard to get them to go in straight. So, I said, "I am going to treat myself to the tool to insert these inserts, because I'm worth it!"The good news is the tool works very well. No more struggling. No more crooked inserts. No more fuss.The bad news is I must now look back on my life with regret, as each day spent installing threaded inserts without this tool is a day that will live in infamy.If you are going to be inserting a lot of inserts, get yourself this tool. Don't be like me, repeatedly bursting into tears at the thought of all those minutes lost to cockamamie insert inserting.

I've used both brass and steel threaded inserts for putting accessories on wooden items for a long time. I needed a sure-fire way of doing it on my most recent project, so I decided to try this tool. For really serious work, I prefer to use stainless steel inserts, but these brass ones will work fine for most projects. Here's what I did. I compared the threads on the outside of the inserts to some of the common bolts I had around the house. They turned out to be 5/16" by 18. I drilled my holes with the included drill bit. Then I used a taper tap for a 5/16" - 18 bolt to thread the holes. This made installation of the inserts very simple with no tearing of the insert, no thread stripping or any of the other problems that can occur with these things. It also helps to lubricate the threads with a bit of paraffin wax. This was the fastest, smoothest installs I have done with inserts.

Keeping in mind I have only used this to install 50 inserts I give this 5 stars.Initially I didn't buy this and tried to install the inserts using screwdrivers and when that didn't work I tried all-thread with a jam nut / drill which did more or less work.Later that evening I ordered this and I am very pleased.The drill bit is very sharp and it's the right size, the tool fits the inserts perfectly and it's easy to pull out once the insert is installed.I find it difficult to get the insert to screw in and be straight in the hole, but that has nothing to do with the drill bit/ tool.The picture is one the knobs I used the inserts in, oddly enough I never really got better at installing them straight even though there were 50 of them.I recommend this product.

I see a lot of good reviews and lot of bad reviews. To clarify things a bit: these are a well known and often used inserts for woodworkers of all sorts. Installing these inserts correctly requires that you have either a drill press, tapping arbor or have at least taken steps to ensure that the angle of installation is perfectly and consistently 90 degrees to the entry point. You will need to pre drill a pilot hole for these and the supplied brad point bit is a perfect fit in maple, but nothing in woodwork is a guarantee. Very dense exotics and the like would benefit from (and may require) an additional tapping step before installation. The installation tool is really handy and safer than a homemade lock nut because it's hardened. Thinking of doing this by hand and eye? Just don't - You have a good chance of getting these stuck at a bad angle and wasting your project. I've installed dozens of these with great results, but I struggled before figuring them out - Use as directed or Suffer.

I could have used a screw driver for the threaded Inserts. But, this kit made it much easier and faster to install the inserts for the project (Queen bed) I'm working on. Simply drill the hole with the encloded bit to the desired depth (I placed tape on the bit to make sure I was at the desired depth for the screws being used) and then insert the threaded insert with the installation tool. Besure to use slow speed on the dril to keep the insert straight and even in the hole or you WILL strip the threads on the insert. To aid in keeping the install sraight I used a small bubble level on the back of my drill. I messed up two inserts before using the level. The inserts are brass and pretty soft.

You could make do without the kit and just buy the threaded inserts. I have been installing threaded inserts without the "official" tools for years with good results. This time for some reason I decided to spend a few extra dollars and I bought the installation kit with 6 threaded inserts. I was actually impressed. The brad-point pit is the exact correct size and is of good quality and the installation tool is very well designed. The installation kit really does make it very easy to install the inserts and now I have the tools for future use.

Purchased these to attach round, unsupported, 18" table legs to a table made out of Jatoba for my two-year-old daughter. I was worried the quality of these inserts wouldn't be up to the task of attaching the legs in this fashion but I was pleasantly surprised. These little guys are well made out of quality material and are quite stout. The only caveat is that I had to drill an oversize hole to be able to fully drive in the inserts without stripping the drive slots; but these were being driven into the Jatoba, a wood that is over twice as hard as oak.

I purchased some threaded inserts from Home Depot that just snapped when I tried to install them. So I ordered these from Amazon and WOW they are MUCH thicker and more robust. These guys aren't messing around. The tools are perfect and a nice touch for a complete package.Don't mess around with anything else, buy this package, you won't be disappointed.

The main problem with this kit is that it comes with a 25/64 drill bit, which into hardwoods like oak, is too small and the install tool will just shred the top of the insert nut. Even with a 13/32 bit it is tight and the top of the insert is often damaged....so either the size of the drill bit needs to be revisited, the insert nut itself needs to be stronger, or it should be noted that this doesn't support use in hardwood and a different product offered in its place.If you are going to use this definitely test it on some spare stock of the same kind of wood you plan to use it with (multiple times). Likely you'll have to buy a new drill bit (or two) and experiment to get the right size.Also, I recommend using this with a drill guide or drill press.

Je n'arrivais pas à bien visser mes inserts avec cet outils dans du frêne. Ça échappait avant d'être complètement visser. J'y parvenais beaucoup mieux avec un boulon visser dans l'insert et deux nuts bloqué pour stopper l'insert. Une fois l'insert en place, juste a faire marche arrière et le boulon se dévisse de l'insert qui lui reste en place.

The kit is a little expensive , but it a nice starter ... after that , you can buy 1/4-20 inserts , 1/4-28 and even the M6 inserts , they all work with the same drill bit and installation tool

The drill bit that comes with this kit is clearly too small, I’m building dining table out of white oak, luckily I decided to try these out on scrap wood first. Stripped 3 of 3 I tried to install before they even got close to being flush. I’ll try using a bit bigger drill bit, these may be good for soft woods? But definitely not hard wood. I’ve seen others with an Allen key type socket for installation, likely wouldn’t strip as easily.

It is not possible to install these threaded inserts well without the included drill bit and insert tool.
