Q: Do these bags protect against small insects?

These bags do the job I bought them for, catch seeds from pods on branch of expensive, hard to find, flowering pink jatropha bush. The green color is better to blend in although the mesh quickly fades somewhat. The drawstrings are longer, better then other similar bags. Will definitely buy more later.

I’m using them on my peach tree and so far only one bag has been ripped off by a squirrel or a crow, with the peach still inside. The animal was not able to open the bag. This is the first time I have tried using mesh bags. So far, so good and I’m ordering more. (I pull the drawstring and then I tie them to help secure them to the branch. So far, nothing has tried to eat through the mesh material.) I would guess that they would work on your avocado tree.

Q: Do these bags protect against fruit flies

They seem to work against fruit flies. I use them on my peach tree. Just make sure you secure them tightly to the limb or they will crawl through the gap. Industrious squirrels will chew through them, but not often.
