Next Step After The Green Belts
This is the level where I start using the margins to list which numbers are excluded from the possibilities. It's pretty rare to finish a puzzle in one sitting. What I really like about these particular Kakuro puzzles is that if you're careful, they can be pulled out of the binding, making it easier to do the actual writing.

New Favorite Hobby
I’ve been working my way up through these books after finding them by chance. Maybe a tad bit expensive, as far as hobbies go, but it’s always worth it!I enjoy these books immensely, and I appreciate that at the beginning of each one, even the more advanced books, there is a tutorial. It goes at the perfect speed to teach you and build your skill.I recently started making sparing use of the answers in the back if I get really stuck - much more satisfying to finish it with a couple hints than to just give up!A fun way to pass the time, just engaging enough to be interesting, but idle enough to do it while watching TV or listening to an audiobook.Would absolutely recommend Kakuro! But if you’re reading a review, that probably means you’re new to Kakuro, so I’d recommend starting with one of the white or green belt books first!

Perfect for my skill level.
I love this series of Kakuro books. This 3rd degree brown belt is probably my favorite, just challenging enough, but sometimes I will buy the 2nd degree brown or the 1st or 2nd degree black depending on if I'm looking for something more or less challenging. Each puzzle takes me approx. an hour to finish in this series. I purchased the 1st degree white belt one for my son for Christmas. He was having fun playing kakuro apps and such, but the white belt book is a bit too hard for him still. Not bad enough that he's giving up though, just that he needs help a lot. He'll get there though. (He's 14)

Much harder than the previous book in the series.
I really enjoyed the fact that the first two books in the series became gradually more difficult. But this third book is immensely harder than the previous books in the series. Towards the end of the second book I was doing two, three, sometimes even four puzzles in a day. But with this book the first full page puzzle took me a week. Should have been a more gradual transition between the second and this third book. Someone's not paying attention here.

Fun and brain work.
I've worked my way up to this level and I think this is as high as I can go. Doing Kakuro is addictive for me.

These are very challenging puzzles and I think even tougher than the Black Belt ones. The main structural difference is that the maximum length of the sums is 7 with the Brown and 8 and 9 with the black. I'm able to finish about 2/3rds of these without help versus probably 3 out of 4 of the black belt series. Still, the puzzles are very enjoyable to solve.

You better be pretty good at solving Kakuro puzzles -- this one is pretty tough. I've been doing these puzzles for quite some time now. Maybe this level is telling me I have reached my level of incompetence. Nevertheless, I'd buy it again. It's challenging; causes you to think and analyze more deeply.

Challenging
To my mind Conceptis Kakuro puzzles are the only ones worth buying - it's just a question of finding your level. This is perfect - harder than the first Brown Belt but not so hard as to be impossible. Challenging, the puzzles are put together with integrity so you can figure them out!
