Dangerous
Came with a £5 for a 5 star review offer in the box.Very cheaply made, flimsy plastic, scratched up after one use. Seems okay at finding studs but the AC wire warning works when it feels like it. I did two full laps of a plug socket with no warning. But, a staircase wall with no electrics in it sets the warning off constantly. If a safety feature is not reliable then it makes the product more dangerous.

Fails to detect a known live wire through 12mm of plasterboard.
I was hoping to use this to confirm the position of the AC electric cable to our cooker, because even though I wired it that was 20 years ago. The unit completely failed to pick up the cable.Assuming it must be me using it wrong I then tried it around some of the kitchen sockets. Again it failed to find the cables in the wall though did detect the live AC when placed over the plug wall plate.Still convinced I must be doing something wrong I placed a scrap of plasterboard over the kettle flex and boiled the kettle and again the unit failed to detect the cable (though it did if I removed the plasterboard). In short this unit only works with live AC in the way a pen detector does in that it has to be touching the cable to work.I did not try the stud or metal detector.Unfortunately I think the claims made for this are dangerously unreliable.

Waste of money.
Somewhat useful, to certain degree. Inaccurate reading makes this device useless, I wouldn't rely on it too much. It finds the AC alright, but the radius is so large, as if there was a whole power grid buried into the wall. Wont find the studs in a lath and plaster walls. Forget trying to find any pipes, unless they are like 20mm away. Don't be fooled by the positive reviews, they are there because of the £5 voucher you get for leaving 5 star feedback!

Just what I needed
The thing to remember when using wall detectors is that it is much an art as a science. They reduce the chance of drilling into a pipe or cable but do not eliminate it. You need to begin by looking at where your radiators and electrical sockets are located and consider where pipes and cables are likely to be located behind the drywall. Tapping on the wall and listening to the sound will give you a good guide as to where studs/dot and dabs are located. Use the detector to further “build up the picture” and as your final check before drilling. Follow the instructions and make sure you calibrate for each mode, resetting to a lower sensitivity if you need more accuracy. When you are ready to drill, drill just enough to penetrate the dry wall then use a torch (or use a paper clip to feel through the hole) to check what lies behind it. This detector provided all the functionality I was looking for at a very competitive price.

Useless, use a neodymium magnet instead
I have a new build house, so near enough every internal wall is a stud wall... yet this detector is unable to locate them accurately at all, no matter how much I calibrate it. It always seems to be 3-5cm from the centre, and sometimes misses them all together. I know this as I have already cut out a piece of plasterboard in the living room. Throwing a dart randomly at your wall while blindfolded would be more accurate than this rubbish. What's worse is the AC light (supposedly indicating a live wire) is constantly lit regardless of where you are, no matter how much you calibrate it. To test this, I set it up on top of the coffee table and calibrated. Straight away the AC light came on, despite there being nothing underneath the table... this is NOT fit for purpose.Save your money and please don't buy this. Use a bunch of neodymium magnets instead, which should locate the screws used to fasten the plasterboard to the studs (they are extremely strong and will stick to the screws through plasterboard). Once you have about 5+ magnets on the wall, you should get an idea of where your studs are and work it from there. Finally, it shows how little confidence the seller has in their item, when they include a card promising a £5 gift card for a 5* review. Returning to Amazon as it's a load of tat.

Easy to use.
I pondered over buying this detector as there are quite a lot of disappointed buyers, personally I found it easy-ish to use, sometimes it would give a false indication but that might have been my fault moving it too fast,. anyway I'm still alive and haven't gone through any electric wires or water pipes, so all's good .What I did at first was fitted the batteries and kept pressing all the buttons to see how it lit up and to see what was what, then tried it out and was successful..

Pleasantly Surprised
I had to run a few cables in-between metal studs and couldn't find them using a magnet finder. This device was able to pick them up easily and, after using on an opposing wall, was spot-on in finding the centres. The device also picked up some plastic radiator pipe that had been marked with silver foil - averted a major disaster there.I wasn't expecting much for £15 but it surpassed my expectations and worked in finding all that I needed it to.

A bit hit and miss. But got there in the end.
After some initial problems trying to locate wall studs at my son's home. We ended up with a wall that looked like a Swiss cheese!. I tried this product again, and it was spot on locating my wall studs. I have now been able to hang my Guitars very securely.I would recommend this product to anyone looking to locate wall studs and electrical cables.
