The Nuttery NT075 Oval Suet Cake Feeder

I really wanted to like this and it is very cute, but only little birds can eat from it. The cage holes are too small for small woodpeckers, and the entire feeder is too small for large woodpeckers to hang on to. If you are getting this to feed woodpeckers, choose something else.

The feeder is attractive and well made - that is not the reason for only 2 stars. I have had this hanging in my yard for over two weeks and the suet cake is untouched. I have seen sparrows looking at it but they can't seem to figure out how to get at the food. I have put some crackers and pieces of suet cake in it near the the outside and those are gone but they do not enter the feeder.I have a standard square suet cake holder nearby which they love but so do the starlings who gobble up the cake quickly. I bought this to keep out the starlings. I even left the square holder empty thinking that hunger would get them to use their brains and figure out the new feeder but they didn't and I felt bad after a day and put a cake back in the old feeder.I will just leave it hanging with fingers crossed and will update my review if the sparrows finally start using this.

It's a great feeder -- I've never managed, before this, to put out suet in a way that only birds would have access to it. This feeder does it. But it's important for new users to know that birds don't necessarily know how to use it when they first encounter it. We put the suet cakes on the outside of the container for the first week. The birds started eating them (as did the squirrels). We then moved the suet to its intended place and the birds followed! They love it! The squirrels are just frustrated

In a squirrelless world this would have been fine, but any squirrel with a third grade education could get the top to slide off and grab the suet cake. With the help of another Amazon purchaser of the Nuttery, i was able to save the usage. He told me t use a binder clip to hold the hands together and also the bend in the handles so that they lock the the lid in place. Do far so good. But I did see another suet cake holder on Amazon that I would consider before this one. Good luck keeping those squirrels in your neighbor's yard.

Works well, but had to put a Metal Spring on the lid to keep the Squirrels out.........

ARRIVED WITHOUT TOP COVER, RENDERING IT USELESS. COMPANY WOLD NOT SEND A REPLACEMENT. Is too bad. its cute.

Great product and service. Well built, sturdy and the birds have no problem getting inside, once they figure out it's ok. It's great watching them. Some of the woodpeckers hang outside and reach in with their long beaks. Single suet feeder is easy to change suet cakes. Of course to be this good of a product it must be "Built in the USA".

This is a good looking suet cage; however, my birds will not go near it, but will use other suet feeders. I am going to pass it along to my mother to see if her birds might be more accepting. If not, it was a waste of money.
