Her first decision was to choose between the two beautiful Salvatore brothers
Elena faces many decisions in this book in the Vampire Diaries: The Hunters. Her first decision was to choose between the two beautiful Salvatore brothers. She chooses Stefan and Damon isn’t too happy. She also learns that she has the option to be a Guardian of earth. She doesn’t want to be one because of how nasty the Guardians can be and she doesn’t want to turn into one of them. But there is a new threat to the world and Elena and her friends will do whatever they can to save it from the danger. The Vitale vampires raised old powerful Klaus from the dead and now he is out to get Elena for killing him. Being a Guardian will help Elena in the fight against Klaus because she will receive new powers. After she meets another fellow earth Guardian and realizes she can still be herself while being a Guardian, she decides she will be one. Damon isn't taking rejection well and he goes back to his old ways of killing innocent girls while feeding. This upsets the Guardians and they tell Elena to kill Damon as one of her task as earth Guardian. Elena has the option of killing Damon and accessing her full powers as Guardian to fight Klaus and save her friends and world form danger. She is determined to not have to make that choice and tries to find another way to save the world without killing Damon. This was probably the most intense book out of the three Vampire Diaries: The Hunters. I felt bad for Damon when he was heartbroken by Elena’s choice and then later finds out that the girl he loves is assigned to kill him. He is just getting the shorter end of the stick in this book. I was also happy for Elena that her mind is finally at peace with who she really loves with all her heart. This book had a lot more action and fighting in it than the others. The way the author describe the fights scenes was easy to understand of what was going on. Mysteries are finally revealed in this book and it shocked me when I read them. You don’t expect what is revealed which was a nice twist to the book.I would recommend this book to anyone who is fan of vampire and romance novels. This book has a nice balance of both love and vampires. You would never expect what happens next and it keeps you wondering what is going to happen. Also not everyone is as they seem. The characters true selves and identities might shock you. There are big secrets finally told and you won’t believe it when you read it.

Interesting way to tie things up, but a little trite and easy too
It wasn’t a horrible story, but wasn’t fantastic either. At least there wasn’t the constant, I love him but I mustn’t love him BS as so many other books in the series.I was impressed that the author did go full circle and bring the Guardians back into it. Though the ending was just a bit too contrived and easy in a way. Tying up all the loose ends that were created was good, but still left enough others and potential new ones that more stories could be developed along the way.I did find it rather sad though that of everyone, Matt wasn’t given a great ending. That poor boy has suffered more then anyone else in the books. Loses his sister Vicki in the first novel, never is going to have his first love, Elena, again (lucky him, she’s a nightmare), and when he finally does meet someone he cares for, she gets corrupted until the only way she can fight the darkness is to take her own life.I will say if you took the time to read so many of the novels in the series, it was definitely worthwhile to read this one, so at least it ties things up. But be prepared, magically having all Klaus and his sired monsters all return is just a tad bit unrealistic and way to conveniently done. Something like that should have been harder to pull off, and not so easily finished off in the end.

Loved it!!!!!!!
Sure, this book and the last one were pretty unrealistic, even for a vampire book, but they were still really good. I love/hate the way L.J. Smith ended this series because Elena and Stefan were in such a good place and (SPOILER ALERT!) Elena's guardian powers were being unleashed, Damon was tied to Elena so he couldn't be vicious anymore, and Elena had just drank from her bottle of water from the fountain of youth. Everyone was in a great place but I still want to know more about how Elena and Damon adjust to their tie, and how Bonnie, Meredith, Zander and Alaric end up getting along.

Disappointment
What can I say about this series of books. I read all the original books and then watched the series only to find it was different from the books. Started reading the college years and what a disappointment this is. It seems that the characters storyline have been rehashed. Everything seems to be repeated in all the chapeters. Oh no Meredith is using her Hunter stave that is constantly repeated about what it is made off. Love triangle between Stefan Damian and Elena now is so boring. They are now friends with the original werewolves who can tell if someone is lying. What can I say about Klaus I'll leave it at that. Now Elena is a earth guardian what next. I'll end it there

Destiny Rising - Disappointing and Repetitive
Having read all the previous books in the Vampire Diaries series I was looking forward to reading this one despite my disappointment with the previous one, and unfortunately I have to report that I did not enjoy this one either. It is of course a matter of opinion, but it did not grip me in the way the earlier books did. The storyline almost mirrored that of one of the earlier books except the setting was in college rather than high school and a few more characters appeared.Basically it was a disappointment and, in my opinion, not worth purchasing.

Not worth reading
Well where to start!! To be honest this has to be the worst written book out of the whole series. The characters that L.J.Smith created in the original books have just been completely destroyed. They have no depth, everything that was interesting about them has quite frankly disappeared. This is a very disappointing book, the way it was written seemed like is was forced. There is no feeling in the book, no imagination has been used while writing it.I would advise people not to buy it unless you really want to see how it ends or you just want to finish the collection, but trust me when I say the ending is very predictable. There was only one part in the entire book that surprised and that was near the end of the book.It was a total waste of money in my opinion. They should never have fired L.J.Smith, at least if she wrote the books you can guarantee it would have been written a whole lot better and it would of have a bit of feeling in it.

Bought as a gift
My mum watches the Vampire Diaries and keeps up with the books - she said this was very similar to the rest of them. Although the series is getting long now and I don't believe that the books marry up with the TV drama at all.

Good but not great
I enjoyed this but not as much as the others, readable but none of the suspense of the others, the baddies didn't seem as bad and the goodies were too good, it was a nice ending but everything was a bit too sickly sweet.
