Eastern Cambodge (Kudam Puli) - 200 Gms

Product arrived on time and as expected. I needed gambooge or fish tamarind for a fish curry recipe and could not find it in my local international market. So I made the curry without it. Result: blah. Saw this on Amazon and decided to give it a try despite the price. Never having used it before, I wasn't sure what to expect. Second fish curry: yummy! This one ingredient made all the difference! The smokey flavor is wonderful. I've added a couple of gambooge fruits(?) to a batch of chilli with great results. I suppose whatever dish you want to have a smokey flavor, you could use gambooge. I read some reviews online about gambooge, and how "stinky" it was to one reviewer, that it made her whole cupboard smell. I did not find that to be the case with this product. While the odor is strong, I find it to be rather pleasant. Smokey, ya know? I put the opened bag in a plastic container with a lid and cannot smell it when I open my cupboard. Now I just have to figure out what other dishes I can make with this unusual product.

This kudam puli gives an amazing flavor for fish. Tips : soak in Luke warm water 15 mts , queeze with your hand or use a masher. My fish masala is simple. Mix of turmeric , red chili powder, pepper powder, garlic paste and salt . Until I bought this kudam puli I was using lemon. But kudam puli gives a unique smoky yummy flavor,I would buy again !! When I make fish I will add a video .
