Oxygene was a seminal album of synthesized music in it's day
This digitally remastered edition of the 1976 album brings back many fond memories of living in the dormitory during college, where certain rooms would be blasting the most innovative fusion and electronic music with the doors closed and a towel stuffed underneath the door (so as not to set off any fire alarms). Oxygene was a seminal album of synthesized music in it's day and is as relevant now as it was then. The difference being that the quality of the sound, in my opinion, is significantly better on this remastered CD. If you enjoy synthesized music from this artist and others, such as Larry Fast and Patrick Moraz, then this will truly be an aural inspiration for you. I love listening to this music when I want to relax on the couch, close my eyes, and enter "the zone", meaning to meditate, and just let the mind wander, smoke-free for me, of course, but use it in your own way and to your advantage. The main thing is that you hear and enjoy this masterpiece of electronic music that, while released in 1976, still sounds incredible and timeless.

and I'm amazed that many people who enjoy his other work have ...
Jean Michel Jarre has been around for a while, and I'm amazed that many people who enjoy his other work have never listened to Oxygene. This remastered version is 'back and better than ever' unless possibly you're a vinyl-o-phile (which I am not). I've seen reviews who dismiss this work in various vapid ways, don't listen to them -- they're going by their uninformed opinion and not being objective. Oxygene, at the time of release, was an incredible achievement and electronic tour de force. That said, it's ok to dislike electronic music, or only like specific parts of electronic music, but this album is in the DNA of EDM just as John Cage, Brian Eno, Kraftwerk, and Tangerine Dream all contributed (just to name a few) to what we have today. As for my personal opinion, I give the album five stars in terms of my personal enjoyment, and four for historical importance in electronica. I'd rate it 4.5 stars from 5 if I could, but I'll give the benefit of rounding.

A variety of sounds that keep you thinking.
This was a fun one to listen to. Anything like this is always grouped in with Tangerine Dream and Vangelis, whose music I'm a lot more familiar with, but this album doesn't really show the discipline of those artists. On the other hand, some of the kooky changes and beats really made me smile, which is something TD and Vangelis rarely do. There are a lot of really cool rhythms and things going on, but it seems like he's doing too much stuff at once and they all kind of step on each other in parts, like you're listening to 2 or 3 electronic albums at once. These things all add up to create a great sense of tension & release throughout the course of the whole album though, so there are a lot of double edged aspects of this album. Overall it's thought provoking and challenging, while being fun and loose, which is pretty hard to do! I'm sure to listen to it again and again.

This cd is a must have for relaxation.
Years ago I got this in cd form (I know have it on my kindle as well....in fact I'm listening to it right now!) after hearing Oxygene IV on a pure moods cd given as a gift. The songs all flow together nicely except on kindle where there is a little pause between tracks (I hate that) this occurs on other albums too. I enjoy the synth sounds. This originally came out in 76 or 77. There is a follow up album with oxygene 7-13 which I love even more. Unfortunately, that album isn't available on kindle....just hunt down that cd it is really worth it. A room with glowing stars or black lighting is the ideal place to listen to it or while taking a nice bath.

dreamy wash of sound, soothing....
I first heard this on progressive FM radio in the 70s, on Seattle's KISW-99.9FM to be exact- and was mesmerized by the dreamlike wash of soothing sparkling sound that I'd heard for the first time. since then I've had this album on LP and cassette, and now on gloriously noise-free CD! no track stands alone, every track is part of a seamless whole, one naturally wants to listen to the whole thing as one unit. I guess this could be considered "ambience" music, maybe the "trance" of its [70s] day.

Great classic by Jean Michel Jarre
Welcome to late 20th century electronic music! This was originally released in 1977 in an era this music was lumped into the "New Age" category. If your looking for good melodic electronic music you've found your disc. I have four of this artists discs all of which I call his early essential works: 'Oxygene', 'Magnetic Fields', 'Equinox' and 'Zoolook'. 'Oxygene' is a intriguing yet contemplative work that moves smoothly from track to track. If you have some good headphones it easy to get lost in this work. I highly recommend all the discs I mentioned above all which are pleasantly unique. You may have some trouble finding all these works, but they are well worth the quest.

Electronic pop at its best.
It is Oxygène by Jean-Michel Jarre so not much more needs to be said. This album was the pioneer of a genre that sprouted in the 70's.Other musicians followed Jarre's footsteps but none ever got to this level of understanding of the electronic pop. The album was so catchy that it was even played in dance clubs back in the 70's.If you like electronic music then this should be the first album on the shelf for you because it has no comparison. This is classic Jarre.

Inhale this Oxygene
Not a single track here is a throwaway. His compositions are unique and was able to create a trademark sound that only him can create. He may have been influenced by the German school of electronic music but his style is totally independent and distinct. This is the school of electronic music the French or Jarre way and far more superior that any of his releases. This album is a full menu from ambient, new age, instrumental rock, dark, prog and ofcourse electronic or synthesizer music that is raving in that era. Jarre got them all in this record.

OXYGENE: THOUGHT PROVOKING!
Thought provoking music. It uses various instruments to describe the fragile nature of our Earth and humanity itself. It is a musical piece that is based on a piece of art featured on the album cover. It is a modern classic, one of the themes has become quite famous and is easily recognisable.

The first sequel to Oxygene (2018 Sony Remaster)
It sounds wonderful, and they have revised the artwork, more saturated colours, thicker text, and a slight crop from the original version which all make for a better cover, it's cleaner and sharper.Really can't find any faults with this reissue.

Im sure there are better mastered versions of this recording, Vinyl maybe??
I never bought this when it came out in the 1970s so can not comment upon the sound quality of the original Polydor vinyl recording but to me this remaster sounds a bit on the thick side. Its all there just takes a lot to stir this pot of synth pop from the 1970s.Enjoyable but could be better mastered.

Extremely pleased.
It arrived in pretty much mint condition, the vinyl itself hasn't a single scratch. The cover looks amazing. My boyfriend will be so happy to receive this as well as Rendez-vous to top up his Jean Michele Jarre collection (he currently only has Equinoxe)The album sounds absolutely amazing and still as wonderful to date. I personally find it's aged well too as it's timeless. The thing I love about Jean michele Jarre's music is that it lets your imagination run wild. This is definitely something you should have in your collection.

Standard CD only available.
I thought I ordered the new remastered recording but received the standard CD but it's ok as I only had this on old vinyl and it is a definite improvement in sound quality. The new remastered version is only available as a Daily Mail free gift.
