Good ‘encyclopaedia’ for Beano fans
This book is exactly as described- a beano guide. Most pages are dedicated to character or location bio’s. Which is fine if you want to add to your collection as a beano fan, but that’s all.Certainly not suitable for anyone thinking this is a comic- this is a comprehensive guide to every one beano. Neighbours, friends etc are all described in detail. For under £10 for a hardback is really good value, but I think this is based on the niche market and knowing it’s not a book which would delight the masses.Overall it’s a good book, it’s just a bit boring if you’re expecting comics, jokes, pranks etc as I was hoping it might have.

Terrific way to celebrate Beano
I grew up reading the BEANO and DANDY comics, they were quintessentially British in their art style and their humour and I would swap the comics with my friends at school so we could read new stories with our favourite characters. With the 75th Anniversary being celebrated in 2023, this Ultimate Guide is a fantastic way to revisit the nostalgia of my childhood, looking back at all the characters from the Bash Street Kids, Billy the Whizz, Minnie the Minx and of course the iconic pairing of Dennis the Menace and Gnasher his pet dog.But this Guide not only allowed me to look back with fond memories but it is also a celebration of how the comic has survived for 75 Years, from where it started and seeing how it evolved over every decade to still be active today. It has been years since I looked at one of the comics but to see how much has remained but been enhanced by new characters and locations over the years, I enjoyed showing my 9yr old Nephew who now reads MARVEL and DC Comics how this bastion of British comic books what I used to read as a kid. The illustrations are amazing and no character or location is left out, this really is the Ultimate Guide to all things BEANO Comics and what better way and keepsake to have to celebrate the 75th anniversary. Absolutely fantastic book to own.

Beano guide rather than comic strips
I read the Beano as a kid. I was in and out of hospital for various ailments, and the Beano, along with The Dandy, Whizzer and Chips, and Marvel and DC reprints kept me sane (and also a lifelong comic book fan).I've since left Beano etc. behind in favour of Marvel, DC, Image, etc., but when this book appeared through Vine, I had to have it, particularly for my nephew. As we all know, comic books are a gateway to literacy! The book is presented well, hardback with the feel of your yearly annuals, but with far more pages. There was some disappointment when I discovered that this is a guide rather than comic strips. HOWEVER, this book bridges the gap between fans of old and newbie younglings. There is plenty to enjoy for all ages whether its doing the puzzles or reminiscing!

NOT QUITE ULTIMATE
To an oldie it's not the real ultimate guide. Disappointed that it isn't as edgy as it should be in this day and age. It's a guide rather than a comic and it lacks a few comic strips that would have added to it. Well presented and a nice hardback book, but it's a guide for todays readers not us oldies in the years before health and safety and bubble wrap.

Entertaining!
I got this for my nieces and nephews, who are all 8 and got into the old Beano comics and are obsessed with them. They really enjoyed learning all about Beanotown, although this didn't have as much history as I thought it would, especially since it was a book to celebrate the 85th anniversary. However, the pages are colourful and there is a quiz at the end and a section for them to fill in to become a Beanotown resident. They particularly liked these interactive features.

witty and irreverent and very childish, in the best beano kind of a way.
My daughter, at 11, is still a big fan of the beano. She really enjoyed this book. There are no comic strips - it is more fun facts about the characters and locations - A kind of parody of the t-v series fan books. It is witty and irreverent and very childish, in the best beano kind of a way. It would probably benefit from a vey comic strips though.

Good but in no way an ultimate guide
This is a good book for Beano fans but in no way can it be described as an 'ultimate' guide. It focuses far more on the present day strips; I was expecting more of a history and guide to the characters in the comic over the past 85 years. There are some nods to older strips but far too many are completely missing from the book for it to be an ultimate guide. It's presented, as expected, in a largely visual format - not cartoon strips but a friendly, accessible way for young readers. It's more of an extension of the comic in a non-strip form than anything else.

Better than the Dandy!
I read the Beano when I was younger, and our son was also a fan. I'm hoping that our granddaughter will follow on the family tradition when I give her this, although of course the comic itself no longer exists and they only do 'special issues' these days so maybe this will mean nothing to her. And that's the problem with this, I suspect. The book and its language is clearly aimed at young children, but they're selling memories of a comic which is likely to be unknown to most of its intended audience. It's good for what it is, though.
