Q: I know it says it’s vegan, but it is for sure cruelty free too?

It depends on what you consider 'cruelty free'. Eco Lips claims to not test on animals, however some of their products use beeswax which I consider to be cruel depending on how it's obtained. I cannot find anything on the Eco Lips site regarding this nor have they responded to my review where I invite them to clarify this. I still have the tubes I mistakenly bought last year (2019) when I thought the company was vegan and they do not have any cruelty free -Leaping Bunny or otherwise- certificates. I don't recall if there were any on the outer packaging, though it's possible they have upgraded their packaging to reflect that they at least do not test on animals. There is also the possible issue of animal labor which came to my attention where an actual vegan lip balm company (Hurraw) stated on their website animal labor is used in obtaining their ingredients. I don't currently know if Eco Lips uses animal labor though as I only realized it was something else I had to watch out for after purchasing them and looking for an alternative. I don't know if I'll ever be able to purchase from companies that 100% meet my standards, but I am still on the lookout and also am considering making my own products.

Q: Does this have petrolium in it?

No, it doesn't contain petroleum. It is vegan, gluten and cruelty free and also fair trade certified.

Q: Are the tubes plastic? Or is there a cardboard tube version?

Yes, the tubes are plastic. Unfortunately, we do not have a cardboard version available at this time.

Q: Is it in biodegradable packaging?

The information you’re looking for is on their website available to anyone who is interested. The packaging is made with recyclable plastic for this item. I’ve tried just about every brand on the market. Only this brand does not cause my lips to peel. Nor are there bad side effects if I stop using it do to lip balm dependency. Many lip balm users will know exactly what I am referring to. They’re also a great family friendly company to work for. So I will settle for the recyclable plastic and know that if they could make it work with biodegradable packaging they would.
