GOOD - Thin Addition to a Sound Proof System – DON’T EXPECT MIRACLES..
MuteX - "Soundproofing" - 2 Ply sheet material (5.5mm thick) Resin backing with a interlocking carbon weave face.MuteX Could be a great addition to other sound barrier products. Don’t expect total sound muting. Because.. you’re not building a double block wall on two separate foundations. Most likely, you’re adding to an existing wall.. Alone - MuteX STC rating (32) less than half of Homosote (55) or sound barrier drywall (40-70). Combine MuteX with sound barrier drywall or homosote and the soundproofing will exceed its rating alone..MuteX hangs like a thick rigid roll of tar paper.. So best to unroll a bit, pre-cut your piece a little long, hang (nail-up) and then trim the excess. Product literature states to keep polyweave surface facing the source of noise.. (preventing airborne transmission of sound)MuteX helps muffle sound waves. Sound waves vibrate all the materials connected to each other.. (structural sound transmission) one room to another..Most importantly, SOUND ISOLATION IS THE BEST WAY ! True sound isolation designs "isolate" the sound wall.. so its connection points don’t transmit sound waves. The “sound wall” is structurally attached by "clips." (vibrations of sound are wicked, and can even be transferred thru the studs and nails. so read up)Higher - STC (Sound Transmission Class) values mean better sound proofing..
