Leonhart Fuchs: The New Herbal / Physician and Pioneer of Modern Botany

First, I read the other review and knew it was in German before purchasing. I wanted to use this as a visual reference guide for drawing, and figured I could google translate any of the plant titles if I needed to. Needed it right away and the English copies didn't have Prime shipping. Completely filled with full page, colored art from cover to cover-- every other page has a plant drawing on it, sometimes skipping a page and sometimes having two in a row. They are gorgeous and laid out to give you a good view of the flowers, leaves, stems, and root systems.If you do not speak German and are looking to get the book to learn about herbs, I recommend waiting for the English copy. If, like me, you are on a time limit and need the pictures only, this one works great. I got it on free two-day shipping with Prime and it arrived the next day.

Aber das Buch ist in deutscher Sprache mit dem alten Schriftzug.The pictures are wonderful, but the text is in 1500s German with the old lettering style. It was written by a botanist for other botanists, with their jargon. It's not easy to read.There is an addendum in English that gives an overview of the chapters, a numerical list of the plates with modern species, and an alphabetical index by modern species name. That will help you figure out what is being discussed. Or just look at the pretty pictures.

Wonderfully printed book.. absolutely fantastic for the price.

I'm sure it is a great read. The art is beautiful. But it's usefulness ends there because it is written in German.

Sadly, my German is limited to asking my way to the station, the text is in Gothic German, illustrations are great ...not for light reading as it weighs about 5 kilos

A Bible for connoisseurs at an amazingly low price.

とても素晴らしい本です、昔に大判を購入出来なかったのでこのような安価で手に入るとは思わず、海外の書籍には毎度驚かされます精密画とまではいきませんが詳しいハーブの見た目とその種に関した説明、説明文がカリグラフィックなもので英語に不得手な自分には大変ですが面白くそれも良い時間泥棒です…大変分厚い本なので…最近ハーブや鉱石等を集めて居らっしゃる方が多いようですがインテリア面も知識面でも面白いのでお奨めかもしれません
