A Prince of my Own (Forever Yours Book 6)

A prince of a hero!
Lady Miranda Cheswick, daughter of the Earl of Langford, has been told by her ambitious mother, that with her beauty, Miranda deserved to marry a prince, or at least a duke. Miranda has already refused three proposals, and her mother is not pleased. She has a marquess lined up for Miranda, but Miranda will only marry for love. Then, under unexpected circumstances, Miranda meets Dr. Simon Astor. Soon, they both discover that they enjoy each other’s company very, very much. Miranda’s mother would never approve, and Simon has a secret…A PRINCE OF MY OWN is such a gorgeous romance with a plot twist that almost made me drop my ereader! Miranda made a mistake once and she lost her best friend Pippa; this, added to meeting Simon, changed Miranda's outlook on matrimony. Although it’s a low-angst story, I had no idea how things would transpire. The romance was easy, Miranda and Simon are honest, and you can see that they truly care for each other; they are adorable. But that was counting without Miranda's mother! What a despicable, horrid woman! She is haughty, selfish, stubborn; she is truly horrible, and in such a realistic way, it is scary! The story flows smoothly; the writing is light, elegant, and effortless. The dialogues are refined yet straightforward. But Stacy Reid threw me in for a loop towards the end! Oh my goodness! There was a rather distressing scene, and I literally laughed out loud at Miranda’s thoughts – I hope that was the author’s intention! – but afterwards, it was not funny at all! I thought Miranda and Simon would never get their happily-ever-after, because things looked so dire! What a splendid hero! It was all so nice and lovely and charming, and boom! I was shocked – and delighted because that plot twist was totally unexpected, and masterfully dealt with! What a fabulous ending! And all this excitement without a sex scene, but there is still plenty of chemistry between Miranda and Simon. Even though A PRINCE OF MY OWN is a novella, there is more substance than in many full-length novels – it takes a lot to surprise me so much! – and there are quite a few secondary characters; most appear very briefly, but made quite an impression on me. I hope Ms. Reid will write their stories.

Short and Sweet
Simon knew he wanted Miranda but he took the time to figure out how to go about it. When he needed to step up he did.

Sweet, but too short
This was better than the average novella, but ultimately it wasn’t as satisfying as it could have been, plus 26 of the 125 pages of the story (not including filler at the end) were about Simon’s brother, William. So frustrating.I love a hero who is not a duke. Dukes are awesome, but they can grow tiresome. A third son who is a hunky Doctor! He deserved more story as did the reformed Miranda.

Engaging romance story
An engaging regency romance, not as steamy as I expected but Simon and Miranda are wonderful characters and this developed into a worthy romantic happily ever after.

To find a Prince
Lady Miranda Cheswick finds herself stranded after a carriage accident in the home of Dr. Simon Astor. Miranda is attracted to Simon as he is to her. Finally with her mother confined, she feels free from the pressure of her mother's constant push for a Duke or a Prince. But her mother's interference once again puts her in a compromising situation. Is Simon willing to fight for her heart? A fast paced read that keeps you on the edge.

Nice book, but left me wanting
This was a sweet, fast read, that left me wanting more. A lot more....Compared to the other inatalments in the series this reads like a novella, and not a full blown novel. The story is sweet (almost TOO swet) and feels really rushed, as if the author wanted to get rid of it as soon as possible and move onto the next books in her pipeline. The ending felt sudden and left me unsatisfied. There was no Epilogue to tell us of the events that followed.I don't know how to better explain it, than while reading the book it occured to me it feels as if I'm watching a sweet, but bland, Hallmark movie rather than reading a Stacy Reid novel! There was no clever banter between the main characters, no unsupressed desire, or steamy encounters. It was all sweet and mellow... It's a 2.5 stars from me. It's not a bad book, not by a long shot, it just does not live up to the other books in the series.

Very disappointing ending 😑
I have enjoyed the rest of the books in this series, but the ending of this book was very poorly done. It was a very big disappointment. Miranda, though brainwashed by her mother showed grit and spunk, like all the rest of the ladies in book 1 thru 5. They didn't wait for others to chart their course, they took control of their destiny. Although she did stand up in the end, you made her look pitiful and spineless. You could have done so much better by her character.

short story
Really like this author's stories....different, interesting twists to H/h dilemmas and I give her 5s for them. However, the problem with this story is that the ending is too clipped. It would have been nice to have either another chapter or epilogue putting the finishing touches to the story. I was surprised because this author usually completes her stories.

Sweet and gripping!
I loved this read more than I anticipated, the couple was delightful and the story was light with some dramatic moments - I loved that in those moments the main characters took responsibility for their actions and they addressed them fairly quickly as opposed to an overly drawn out conflict.Lately I have struggled to concentrate when reading and have skimmed quickly through books that I had initially been excited to read, so I was thrilled that this book captured my attention and I was able to get back into reading. A beautiful story and would definitely read it again. Thank you Stacy.

3.5 stars only - improbable ending
I was really enjoying the novel until the most improbable ending.I know one has to suspend belief - as historical romances never truly reflect the society in which they are set. However, the plot ending where Miranda and Simon just walked out of the room and ignored the others - just wouldn’t have happened and if it had the scandal would have been long lasting and enormous.Miranda had been manoeuvred into a betrothal, to a Duke, by her obnoxious and social climbing mother. The betrothal was announced in the papers, and so it is in the public domain. However, Miranda just breaks the betrothal (to a Duke!!!) and walks off with The Duke’s brother. Her social climbing family would not have allowed it - Miranda would have been forced against her will, if necessary, to marry The Duke. If she didn’t there would have been severe ramifications - Miranda would not have received her dowry from her family and Simon would have received nothing from The Duke (i.e. the ducal estates) - so what would they have lived on? He is a doctor who only treated the poor - so the money wouldn’t be rolling in there. Would they go abroad to escape the scandal? The plot should have excluded the public announcement in the papers, and then everything could have been resolved nicely. The Duke would have ensured that everything remained secret - as, apart from Royalty, Dukes were at the pinnacle of Society - very powerful peers who could ruin another person both financially and socially. Therefore, anyone in ‘the know’ would not have broadcast the occurrence.I hope Stacy does a re-edit and decides that a betrothal notice is not sent to the papers and thus making her plot ending much more believable.

Another amazing story
This is another amazingly crafted story that sees this series continuing that gusto. This is a clean tale with wonderful characters, and plenty of emotional passages. This is a very captivating read.

sweet but no heat
I love Stacy's other books. Usually they are naughty. This is a sweet story and entertaining to read. However, I like my Regency stories hot and steamy like The scandalous diary of Lily Layton. This story was disappointingly tame. I'm sorry to say but this is my least favourite book of Stacy.
