Healthy and Easy
I have been a huge fan of Taste of Home recipes for a while now. The recipes from Taste of Home are usually easy, with readily available ingredients and very delicious. But I recently decided to start Watch Watchers. I was disappointed to discover that many of my Taste of Home recipes didn't really square with my new lifestyle. So I set out to find a cookbook with recipes that would fit into my new lifestyle. I was super excited to find this set of cookbooks by Taste of Home! I am not an adventurous cook by any stretch of the imagination. I am the type of person that has to follow a recipe to the letter. I have started experimenting a little as of late, but I'm definitely not someone who can just throw together some delicious off the top of my head, the way my mother can.Simply put, this book has it all. It has a meal plan if you need that. It has motivational stories and a lot of great information regarding exercise, portion control, eating out, and much more. But in my humble opinion, the best thing about this cookbook is the recipes. I am a pretty picky eater. As anyone who has purchased a cookbook knows, it can be very hit and miss. There are some really good cookbooks out there, but there are also some really bad ones. The bad ones tend to have difficult-to-find ingredients, a lot of ingredients, and complicated recipes. That is definitely not the case with this cookbook. I think this would be a great cookbook for anyone. Whether you are a novice cook or a seasoned veteran. The recipes are straightforward with every day ingredients that are readily available in any supermarket. They are also delicious. This cookbooks contains a wide variety of recipes including snacks and appetizers, side dishes, dessert, and main dishes. As well as many more. When I buy a new cookbook, I like to go through and read each recipe. I mark the ones I want to try. With this cookbook, I marked almost every single recipe.Even though I am trying to lose weight, I don't want to have to give up my favorite foods and eat bland, tasteless, disgusting food. I want to be able to eat downhome comfort food. There are some recipes that you can lighten even more by using low-fat or reduced fat items like sour cream and cheese. This cookbook will definitely fit easily into a hectic, yet healthy lifestyle. I highly recommmend this cookbook to anyone. I would definitely other another cookbook from this series. This cookbook will not disappoint!

Great Low-Cal Cookbook!
I love to cook and have many gourmet cookbooks and wonderful family recipes that have always been favorites, but I needed to trim down the calories in my everyday meals. My purpose in buying this cookbook was to get some new low-cal recipes & some ideas for how to lean down my own recipes, and for that purpose, I think this book is fabulous!!PROS: I've had the cookbook about 2 months and have tried about a dozen recipes in the book and all have been great, with helpful & detailed nutritional information. The recipes for anytime turkey chili, chicken marsala & chicken gyros were real hits with my very fit active duty military hubby, who certainly doesn't need to diet. I also really like that most of the recipes use normal ingredients that you probably have on hand. The cookbook is enjoyable to read & easy to navigate. It has nice photos, a good index, and I especially like the format with sections color-coded by meal type (snacks, breakfast, lunch & dinner). The cookbook has some great resources in it too like the 6-week meal plan and lists of free foods, snacks under 50 calories, and 51-100 calories snacks. Best of all for me the cookbook has been a useful source of ideas for how to modify my own favorite recipes - it is amazing how a simple substitution can really shave off calories!CONS: NONE! This was my first diet cookbook purchase so the negative reviews/comments about it being duplicative weren't an issue to me. If you are a collector of diet cookbooks and already have a taste of home cookbook, then this might not be the one for you. I also wasn't concerned about the magazine subscription/privacy issue since you could just not sign up for that if you didn't want your information to be released...

My Constant Companion
I wasn't sure what this cookbook was going to be like but, based on the reviews, it sounded perfect. And, perfect it is. It has absolutely fabulous recipes and incredible photos. The title is not misleading, either. Every one of the recipes are for foods that I definitely consider comfort food, yet they are redone with an eye to health. One of the more difficult things for me when trying to lose weight is choosing foods that my kids will eat and that will not sidetrack my goals. No more worries. These are recipes to be enjoyed by all.In addition to book divisions by breakfast, lunch and dinner, there are worksheets to help you plan three meals and two snacks a day while staying within your calorie goals. Another inclusion that I find particularly useful is the nutrition information for one serving of each recipe. This information not only includes calories but also fat grams and other information that make it useful no matter what type of diet you are following. Excellent. Yummy looking food and just about the coolest diet book I have ever looked at. I want to try them all and the only difficult decision is which to choose from first! I think with this guide, staying on a diet is going to be super easy since comfort foods are always the hardest to give up. Every time I get a free moment to sit down, I grab this book and a cup of tea and choose more favorites to try. I have yet to put this book up on the cookbook shelf in my kitchen--I may never!

Great cookbook!
When I purchased this cookbook, I must admit I didn't think that the "comfort food" would measure up to the country cooking that I was used to! I was wrong! I first tried one of the cake recipies my boyfriends mom had made (which inspired me to buy the book)..super easy and full of flavor without the heaviness and extra calories.I love that the cookbook is full of slow cooker, mexican style foods and easy lunch ideas! I haven't actually started the "diet" that is recommended yet, but love the idea that all the meals are laid out for you with portions and calorie counts. I have also enjoyed reading the success stories of those who have seen results! I highly recommend the purchase!

definitely comfort food
Well layed out and lots of tasty looking food photos.only negatives are that there are a few recipes that are somewhat repetitive and that many of the dinners take a long time to prepare. I've tried out a couple of recipes and with a few minor tweeks would be perfect for my picky family.
