It's a knife, not a macete. It's a hatchet, not an axe.
At this price, it gets 5 stars. Got mine for $25 US. This is the second SCAX10 I've bought, just needed another. It cost me the same price a couple years ago.for just the hatchet. They threw in a big knife for the same price, so I bit. The hatchet is the best small chopper for the price, by far. My older one bears the scars of abuse and multiple sharpenings, often with a file. Have put a razor edge on it a few times. It's just a great camp axe. Just don't hang it from the belt loop too much. Sheath is plenty good enough to throw it in a pack and not much more. The knife is the big "if". Since it was essentially free, can't gripe. It's very hollow ground, so edge durability will be nil until you sharpen it to a scandi filet knife. Besides, it's made of the same 3Cr13 as the hatchet. At least it's easy to sharpen. It's the beater blade destined for destruction in the future. I know the hatchet well. Can easily predict the knife. It"s worth every penny at $25. Buy the combo and give the knife to a responsible young teen who lives in the country. Or keep the knife around for things that would make you cringe to do with a better one.

The mini machete is great!
I went up to Colorado with family this last October, I brought these along with. I was surprised how strong and powerful the 'mini machete' is! I ended up enjoying it more than the hatchet. Side note: the hatchet isn't that great for splitting wood, it's best used for cutting since it's profile is so thin compared to a axe or hatchet that would be used for splitting wood. Also don't make the same mistake I did; using this as a throwing axe. The handle isn't made of a great material for axe throwing if you are into that.

Easily worth $20 for two tools you can beat the hell out of
A little bit better than what I would expect for $20 honestly. I normally only buy nice expensive blades, tools & anything made out of metal because I don't like junk. But these are very sturdy and have already split wood by batoning with the knife & by splitting with the hatchet. Hammering the knife into a log sideways using the back of the hatchet to hammer it in and then using it to hold on while splitting with the hatchet works well and keeps your hand from accidentally getting hit. The hatchet is very small but has plenty of weight making each swing do more work for you. It is very small but it's in the dimensions here so if you're concerned with the size make sure you don't need something larger than an 11 inch overall hatchet. I need it for out back for my fire pit and it's all I needed. No sense in spending several times as much for something I'm only going to use a few times during the summer. It coming with a machete which feels like a decently sturdy knife was a good selling point in my opinion since again it is sturdy enough to do some minor batoning with or any other myriad of small outdoor tasks that might need a sharp edge. But since it also doubles as a make-shift handle so that you can keep your hand away from where you're splitting wood with the actual hatchet it's well worth $20 for this package. The machete sheath though is junk and the machete itself will cut into the material the first time you put it in making all sorts of filling come pouring out.

Great for the money
I purchased this hatchet and knife for light miscellaneous use in a campsite setting. I went with one of the most inexpensive hatchets I could find because I'm just experimenting to see if the hatchet is more useful than a large heavy knife for camping. The jury is still out on that issue, but I ended up using both the hatchet and knife for a raised garden-bed project in my yard that required me to create about 50 pointed wooden stakes 1-inch or more in diameter. The hatchet did a great job cutting rough points on my wooden poles, and the knife trimmed up the points nicely.) I didn't get any nicks on the blade edges of the hatchet or knife, even though I accidentally whacked a brick several times with the hatchet. I think this set would be suitable for a teenager or first time camper for general use. The hatchet is too small for heavy-duty use, and the knife is a little too thin to serve as a trusted survival knife. But I was pleasantly surprised at the durability of both. My only complaint pertains to the hatchet. I have very large hands, and the handle of the hatchet is very small. It was somewhat difficult to control the hatchet, especially while wearing gloves, because I just couldn't get a proper grip on it. I plan to fix that issue with some layers of tape on the handle. This set is well worth the money.

Practically Perfect...
This hatchet was the star of my camping trip. Cutting kindling and medium logs was a breeze. Was able to use it for a few hours with little problem. My one complaint is that I started to develop a blister where my finger was being pinched each time I struck the wood. I'm going to make the handle a little more ergonomic using cord or fabric but otherwise I cannot ask for more. The knife that the combo comes with is substantially larger than the listing would have you believe and is closer to a bowie or mini machete, that was a nice surprise! If you need a hatchet, get this combo...

Excellent quality for the price!
So my kid came home from camp one day all bummed out because the group of older kids (all the same age or even slightly younger than the group he got placed in) were having fun chopping firewood one day. He was told by the camp counselor that if he brought a tool, he could also participate. Initially we were only looking for a short machete or something similar but saw some sets like this. After reading some other reviews and the details, we decided to go with this set to surprise him. The blades are extremely solid, and we knowingly/intentionally purchased ones that have a full tang (blades goes all the way through the handle) for safety. I somehow overlooked the fact that both the hatchet and the machete came with their own sheaths with included belt loops (I know some of the sets I looked at did not), so that was a pleasant surprise. All in all, a great buy and a totally worthwhile purchase!

Ad un prezzo sotto i 40 euro è un vero affare. L'accetta è assolutamente stupenda, ottimo anche il coltello. Entrambi in full tang. Arrivano con un filo a rasoio attenzione che l'accetta è molto affilata. Schrade è una marca che non delude mai. Consigliati

Seems like my old Fiskars 540gr hatchet has finally a worthy partner/competition on my backpack spot. Schrade is weighing at 640gr so heavier but is a full steel construction. I will not worry about braking handle while wedge-splitting a log with this one. The "machete" in this kit for me is an extra, which most likely I will not use much. Not sure about the "machete" designation but I guess if someone needs a survival type fixed blade, this will do just fine. Overall, great camping set.

I looking for the Schrade hatchet. Buying it alone was more expensive this the dual package. The machet is ok I would not use it for anything rough like splitting wood, but to cut or to hack away at some thinner twings it would do fine. As I mentioned the package was cheaper than getting the Hatchet alone. An the Hatchet is supper sharp, and even to cut the hairs on your arms. I love this hatchet, had one years ago but I left it at a campground. Great value & quality for the money.
