Great for someone new to Access
Having only a rudimentary knowledge of Microsoft Word in older versions, I bought Microsoft Office 2010. There were big changes so I bought two books, Microsoft Office 2010 all-in-one for dummies and this one on Access. I've never used Access but wanted to see if it could replace an ancient DOS database program we've used for decades in our businesses.I wanted a book that wasn't intimidating and was quick to get me started. This one is a bit basic, but it is very clear and leads you through all the steps needed to set up a database. Because I have to work on this between deadlines, I haven't finished setting up my database yet, but I feel confident this book will provide all the information I need.I'd recommend it for anyone just delving into Access 2010 for the first time.

Not finished evaluating yet.
I have read most of the book, and it seems to be helpful. Unfortunately, I have not tried to use the information on a database that I have that was developed by someone else, but I need to migrate it to Access 2010.

Bad purchase.....
I had a class in this a few years ago and had to use it again recently in a job. It had been so long that I had forgotten most of it, so I purchased this book. If this is written for dummies.....they must be pretty smart ones! I thought once I looked at it, what I learned in the class would come back to me. Boy was I wrong. It didn't look remotely like anything I had remembered from the class. I found this very hard to follow and the author seemed to leave out a lot of the fine details (probably assuming it was something the reader already knew). That made it even harder to figure out. This definitely isn't for the beginner, by any means. I ended up giving it away.

helped a bit
Bought for my secretary to learn Access. It worked ok for her but she still needed a tutorto come in and show her how to do some of the features. Paid the tutor $10/hour for a fewhours so that and a couple of books got me a secretary who really knows Access. Moneywell spent all things considering.

no dummy
The book is very informative. Microsoft Access has always been difficult for me to grasp, but this book makes it easy for me to learn Access 2010. I don't feel like a DUMMY!..... The author is also very humorous. I enjoy reading the book.

How can you learn without examples?
This is a book that shows you only how to operate Access - click here, click there, create table, delete table, etc. I'm now starting chapter 5, page 99, and I have yet to see an example. I learned a lot more by watching Access learning videos on YouTube. The authors have not yet introduced EVEN ONE example or exercise that the reader can perform. Out of 420 pages, the first 100 are dedicated to getting to know, and finding your way around Access. Chapter 4 introduced Keys, Relationships, and Indexes (should be Indices), and only showed the reader how to do so. So you end up learning how to perform an action such as linking two tables, but the literature doesn't really get into why you do that, and without an example or exercise to work through, it's really not beneficial. This is a how-to manual. I bought this book to create a dB for my job, and I haven't learned much except where to click for what!Another suggestion to the authors: please spare us the humor. It's silly (not funny to an adult at least) and distracting and takes up precious space on every page. Here's an example: "Life in today's world is all about doing things faster and more efficiently to increase productivity. Isn't that what your life is about? Oh, you have a life outside the the office, too? (What a concept.) Maybe you have a relationship?..."Yes, my life is all about doing things faster. Your (non) humor is a speed bump that is preventing me from doing so.As I'm reading the book further, I'm finding there is nothing in here that I couldn't get from the Help screens. There is more nonsense, fluff, humor on each page. The authors are using humor to fill up the pages and make the book fatter. You can get through 10 pages and realize that most of that was silly humor. Seriously, I'm not learning anything as this book is more a work of comedy than technical information.

Great book, great humor!
Access is not the 'funest' thing to do. But, it is one of the most productive tools in the Microsoft arsenal. In 2010 they really pulled the 'ribbon' in and without this book, and thankfully its well time humor, it is pretty gritty. I found this book to be a relaxing as well as informative way to re-learn a very important program. The writers know their subject very well and present it with a well organized and light touch--and I thank them for that.

Good Beginner
I guess I am not a "dummy" as this was too remedial for me but it is very helpful for others in the office who have never worked with Access before. I highly recommend if you are brand new to Access but NOT if you have utilized it before and are trying to increase your skills.

Access 2010 for Dummies
This book was purchased as a help to understanding the menu changes between older versions of the product. In the main the book is helpful but as with all these "help" books it is necessary to have some knowledge of the product to enable the examples to be put into the environment you are working on.Microsoft have attempted to improve the GUI interface, if you liked the old interface this book will help you create your own menu's for ease of use

One happy Dummy
It's a book for Dummies. The whole range of Dummies books do what they say generally, they guide us dummies through the product to a reasonable level. Maybe not for the top flight users, but how many of those are there.

This is a brilliant book, especially for someone who, and a computer user, has feared to enter the portals of Access, whichever version! Well woth the money, it arrived very quickly, and is recommended to anyone with an interest in Access 2010.

I recommend this.
Quite good, and in places amusing. For a complete beginner, however, there seem to be some gaps, and when I had a problem it was difficult to find tips on resolving it.
