I purchased this as a tool to find out where my lung capacity has gotten to after a couple surgeries. Using this tool I have already in just over a month seen significant improvement. It is one tool you will ask yourself why you didn't think of it.

I really wanted to like this, if it worked properly I'm sure I would. Feels nice to use, everything looks good, however it very rarely reads when I'm breathing out. Keeping because I can still use it for mindful breathing and as a way to help me quit smoking but for what it's actually supposed to do it's basically useless EDIT: turns out if you block the holes in the mouthpiece it will work every time...would have liked any sort of directions so I could have avoided this but hopefully this helps someone else. Good device but NEEDS INSTRUCTIONS

All the device does is measure your lung capacity. Doesnt actually train you or provide instructions. If all i wanted to do is exhale i wouldnt need a fancy device to do it.

I rated this three stars because it does encourage me to be more aware of my breathing, and it gives me incentive to practice exercising my lungs. A year ago I survived Sepsis. I was told I had to exercise my lungs. I purchased three different versions of those plastic ball type exercers after a nurse disposed of the one I was given in the hospital, and two others developed leaks. I wanted something different, that would add a measure of fun to the exercises. The lights do that. However, each time I use it, it “blows” differently. Sometimes there appears to be a bit of resistance, other times, it blows straight through in seconds, registering nothing at all, other times it has lit up as many as twelve lights, very easily. (As in my photo, I only had seconds to take before the lights went out. This is rare, most of the time only four light up in just seconds.) Basically it’s almost worthless as a true exerciser for the lungs. Where it’s value lies is the cute lights to encourage me to be aware of my breathing. If you searching for a serious lung work out, don’t stop here. I can see how a younger kids would really get a kick out of this, to encourage them, but again, it is not a serious instrument. It develops a lot of moisture in the mouth piece that is removable, as well as the side that the mouth piece slides into, on the instrument itself. If this isn’t removed, I can see how moisture will get into the electronic end of things. I keep a piece of Kleenex near by, to open it and dab up the moisture. It does come with three mouth pieces. I don’t know why, I was hoping they would have different size holes for resistance levels, but nope, they are all the same, except for color. Black, White and blue. It charges up, but took several hours. I have not charged it for two weeks, it’s still going. It’s easy to clean the mouth piece with soap, and warm water. I dry thoroughly, then replace. I take it to bed with me so I can use it to relax before sleep. It fits easily into a pocket, purse or hip pack. Something I do like. However, no matter hard I try, I don’t feel like my lips seal around the mouth piece, possibly the cause of it blowing straight through like a straw it a few seconds. The times I have achieved a good deal of lights, it had so,e resistance, and my lips were sealed around the mouth piece, tight. This doesn’t happen regularly. It is shaped too square to accomplish that. A bit of engineering needed here. Rounding the mouth piece would be a definite improvement. If you are looking for incentive to practice breathing, it great for that. Look elsewhere if you are serious. That’s what I will be doing.
