Update 10/15/2018: I am adding half a star to make this 4.5 stars. Although my very sensitive nose detected some odor, it is nothing compared to all the memory foam pillows I looked at today shopping. I didn’t realize until now, how faint the initial odor was on this product. It’s a good deal, I do recommend it.10/12/18 Update: I received this note from seller(The pillow is made in special mold and it would leave the “holes" in the pillow which is the inevitable problem of technology.The material of the pillow is confirmed and you have no need to worry about it.We would pay more attention to this issue and thank you for your idea.Would you please do us a favor that if you could change or delete your review since it means a lot to our small business?)I will not delete my review, but if the holes are due the form mold it was made from..... then I will add 2 stars, because it was ok. It still smelled like memory foam, so I can't give it anything higher than 3 stars.If it wasn't for the holes and hard crusty "bug-like" deposits I found on back of foam when I removed the cover, I would have given this 5 stars. I hope I am the only person to have discovered unwanted deposits in the pillow.I noticed a slight foam smell when I received it, and was going to wash the cover to see if that would reduce the smell; when I discovered small holes on the back of foam. This pillow is encased in a pillow cover netting, which is then encased in the teal and white pillow cover you see in the description photos. I first noticed the holes, and then the hard crusty things under the netting. I am not going to cut open the netting to see what they are because I don't want whatever it is in my house. So, I am returning this product and will continue my search for an orthopedic pillow.I'm sorry the photo images are bad, the lighting made it difficult for me to photo them without my shadow.

Ended up picking up a couple of these and we generally like them. They're a firmer foam underneath with a softer top layer, making them supportive for larger individuals like my 6'4" partner. :) If you tuck your shoulders right up against it, the angle is decent for head lift (though slightly high, especially if you've a smaller build), and the sides are pretty good for side-sleeping. The shape does tend to encourage your body to stay in place, though, so if you're a more mobile sleeper, you might find yourself initially sore or stiff from not being able to adjust as much. I swap up with other pillows as needed (still searching for that dream pillow!), but keep coming back to this one for support.It does come with a cover, but I absolutely recommend using a proper pillow case of your own. We've had no issues with ear suction or overheating when we've used our own higher quality pillow cases. Additionally, as it states - it's memory foam. It's simply a type of polyurethane that is manufactured and shaped. It's gonna smell a bit of chemical at first. I simply aired out each pillow for a good 24 hours before first use and any residual scent was gone within a couple days.

UPDATE, I LOVE IT MORE A MONTH LATER. I think the one star folks are using it incorrectly. It is made specifically to cradle your head and neck to keep the spine aligned. It is NOT to lift the head, so READ before you buy!! I am finding my muscles to be more relaxed than ever. I had C5,C6,C7 fusion, and it is helping greatly. I plan on ordering another!------------now to original review:::::I have gone through so many pillows, so many styles, so much money. THIS IS THE FIRST that I found to actually HELP - I repeat HELP relieve my neck strain. Sleeping on my back is now easy. ADDED PLUS is that either side of the pillow has built in arm rest that is SO COMFY when I turn to side sleeping. With the arm rest, the shoulder pressure is gone! Also, the pillow is not too soft, and does not puff out and cover half your face when on your side. It is soft, but firm so my face is still exposed while side sleeping. That was important to me.It does have a manufacturer's smell, but after a one day airing, it is gone. I cannot emphasize enough that this pillow really is great for those with cervical trouble. Mine is C5 C6 C7, and the pressure is gone as soon as my head is cradled, it is an AHHHHHHhhhhhh moment when I lay on my back.I hesitated at the price, but I would not hesitate to buy now; and again, Iove the way the arm rests are built in. SO COMFY!!!!

I gave this pillow a really long time before I decided to rate it. I have had trouble with pillows and my neck for years. My last pillow was making me get pains in the my neck every night. The first night I tried this pillow I really liked it. Then for the next 12 days I hated it. I'm more of a side sleeper and so for that kind of sleep this pillow is not the best. I kept at it though hoping I would get used to it. It's been about a month and I can say that it's gotten better but still wish it was more comfortable for side sleeping. I don't have any pains in my neck anymore. If you sleep on your back and don't tend to move this pillow is for you. Overall I would say I'm satisfied with it.

I bought this to replace my cervical pillow which was getting worn out. My old pillow was the kind with the indentation in the middle so I wasn't sure if I would like this one. I had a herniated disc in my neck that I had surgery on so a good pillow is critical. This one wasn't too bad. I also prefer very flat pillows and thought it would be too hard. It is firm, but I slept pretty well. I decided to post a review and then noticed I have been using it UPSIDE DOWN. That's right. The low end is the end where my neck has been going. I think if I flipped it around, it would be way too high and hurt my neck, but maybe I'll try it tonight and see if the pillow doesn't go up to 5 stars.
