For Costa Rica- loved it!
I bought this bag for a trip with my son to Costa Rica. We planned on doing lots of hiking and wanted a bag we could carry on our backs, something water resistant and that would generally keep the bugs out. When it arrived I was very happy with the overall quality. My son, who had planned on bringing a vintage looking canvas bag decided to get an Earth Pak for himself for our trip. These bags and their contents where all we had for two weeks of camping and hiking. Due to their size we were able to carry on our Earth Pak and place them in the luggage carrier above our heads during all our flights. We travelled all over Costa Rica for our trip. From Monteverde down the coast to the more remote Drake Bay/Corcovado area. During our travels from Sierpe to Drake Bay you take a bumpy, windy, wet 45 minutes on an open topped boat through the wetlands and around into the bay. We boarded with tourists and locals. Most tourists were lugging on large canvas roller bags while locals carried the bare necessities in packs JUST LIKE this Earth Pak. In my first picture you can see my bag resting at my feet in the boat to Drake Bay. Everyone's bag sloshed around in several inches of water for the entire 45 minute boat ride. When we arrived there were no docks to pull up to. You literally jump out of the boat into waist deep water and the captains toss you your bags. Several tourists on the boat with us were visibly upset when they were handed their large, wet and now extremely heavy canvas roller bags. My son and I grabbed our bags, put them on our backs and jumped out of the boat into the water and easily hiked up to our hostel. No struggling with canvas rollers along muddy dirt roads. When we arrived, our contents were bone dry and we were able to pull out fresh dry towels and dry pajamas! Helpful tips: 1) Because this bag is basically one large container we were REALLY glad to have purchased packing cubes. The black mesh packing cubes kept my various packed items separate and made it easier to grab one item out without having to refold everything each time. 2) I carried a first aid kit with us which was kept in a hard sided plastic waterproof container. This was totally unnecessary as the bag was completely waterproof during our entire 2 week trip- I could have just gone with a plastic bag and saved the weight and space. The one con: We did a lot of walking and heavy duty hiking with these bags on our backs. I do wish that the bag had a hip belt system. The shoulder straps were padded enough for our liking and the straps were pretty comfortable. The bags are big enough to be heavy when filled with our stuff and a hip belt would have been helpful for those longer hikes to redistribute some of that weight. The bag held up wonderfully our entire trip! The best purchase we made! It's been 9 months since our trip and we've since used these bags for hiking, camping, overnights and day trips. It's a ridiculously useful size. Recently one small seam between the small bag and large compartment in our yellow bag has come undone. This doesn't affect the integrity or water proofing of the bag at all so I haven't contacted EarthPak. I have no doubt they would take care of it since a small note in the bag when it arrived mentioned a life time guarantee. Overall I am so happy with my purchase. Maybe my best Amazon find yet. PROS: - low cost - good quality - durability - water proof!!! (We put that to the test time and time again!) - size (small enough to be a carry on) large enough to pack a lot in it CONS: - large enough to be heavy - no hip belt - one seam has come undone but not integral to the bag TOTALLY WORTH IT! BUY THIS BAG.

Worked very well on a week-long canoe trip.
My son used this for a week-long trip canoeing dozens of miles around in the Minnesota-Canadian border area (Boundary Waters Canoe Area). With this and a similar, much smaller model, he could carry most of the gear he needed for the week (tent, food barrels, and fishing rod aside). This one housed his sleeping bag, various layers of changes of clothes, outerwear for rain and cooler hours of the day, mess kit and food prep supplies, toiletries, a modest sized tackle kit, first aid kit, meds, his backup canteen amd his water filtration, shoes, stuff he needed for class (this was for college credit)...the capacity was great for his needs. When not in use, he easily strapped his canoe seat cushion and life vest to the outside, along with other tidbits he kept for easy reach. He is an underweight guy, and found this pack to bear its load comfortably as they portaged overland (sometimes as far as a mile); we appreciate soind design and good padding. It kept stuff quite dry and didn't sustain any compromising wear and tear. Buckles and bits operated smoothly and dependably. Outer straps and spots to clip things to made for handy space to attach stuff that were easier to keep on the outside. We're really happy with the quality and how well it suited his needs. We certainly recommend it for similar situations. In the picture, this bag is the light gray and black one with the silver cup fastened to it. We hope it gives good reference on size (we bought the largest one, 80 or 80-some L capacity. Also, kid is about 5'8" or 5'9").

Great Backpack
Great bag. Waterproof. One big hole. Expands. Contracts. Bag itself is light and durable with a great feel. Fastening system is adjustable to any preference. I suppose my only desire is for an even larger diameter pack. Not that it doesn't fit a lot already

Good Enough Quality For Motorcycle Camping At A Reasonable Price
The seams and the materials aren't as nice as the expensive motorcycle camping panniers or bags, but this waterproof backpack is good enough, and I like that I can use it off the bike as a backpack. The durability has been good so far and no doubt it'll hold up well for many years of (unfortunately) occasional use, even if it doesn't deliver the pride of ownership of the high end motorcycle adventuring equipment. The medium weight construction probably shaves a pound or two compared to the thicker material and more complicated (less volumetric efficient) shapes used in the fancy equipment. Get the expensive gear if you're traveling around the world, or want to look like a RTW traveler. The lower cost option is good enough for the rest of us to use for our adventures. I wish the shoulder straps could be detached as a guarantee against falling into the rear wheel or flapping in the wind. If not, a storage pouch to secure the straps would have been a nice feature for motorcycling. I also wish the manufacturers of these budget bags wouldn't be so proud of their logo. Most people who buy these bags aren't, and would prefer less attention to the brand. I don't even like conspicuous logos on high end name brand equipment. The small mesh pocket and small storage pocket inside is great for small items that need quick access, such as toilet paper or a small flashlight. I organize everything else mostly in stuff sacks - cooking equipment, food, clean clothes, dirty clothes, sleeping bag, motorcycle tool roll, first aid kit, etc. I have a small adventure bike and prefer ultralight solo camping. I pack everything I need into this one bag, strapped to the luggage rack and pillion of my baby GS motorcycle. I prefer the simplicity over carrying panniers, a top box, etc. I also like not having panniers increasing the width of the bike and sticking out into the wind to act as drag brakes to reduce my mileage. I hardly know I'm carrying 35 pounds in this pack on the seat behind me.

Like the color, size and quality of construction seems pretty good haven’t gotten it wet yet
Seems like a pretty good bag for the price haven’t been in the rain with it, but it seems like it would be watertight
