A must for a media closet!
Was looking for something to be able to cool my media closet and also not spend a ton of money. This unit will do that. Couple of things you need to pay attention to:1. Easy installation, all instructions, hardware and blueprint to cut the drywall included.1. You must get NuTone Variable Speed Wall Control to work in tandem with. Without it the fan will rev at full speed and it's noisy. Tried other wall controls and none worked.2. To cool my media closet (size 4' wide x 6' long x 8' high) the wall control is set at ~70% and fan makes barely any noise.3. As you see in the picture, I ran the installation through a thermostat (power goes to thermostat which is connected to wall speed control which is connected to the fan). This allows me to set the desired temperature and have the fan turn on and off automatically.Total project cost the fan, wall speed control switch, thermostat ~ $90.

With variable speed wall control works perfectly and quiet now too
Worked as expected, we are using it to move air out of a small closet with a lot of electronics but louder than expected.Edit: after the initial install and being unhappy with the noise, I ordered and installed the below Nutone variable speed swall control and at about 75% speed the fan quieted to a whisper and still moves a good amount of air, now perfect.NuTone Variable Speed Wall Control for Ventilation Fans, Dial Knob Control, 3 Amp., 120V, White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004Q01PQI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_KrOEEb2HMEVH0

Ultimate exhaust fan
I had removed my older fan of this same type when it stopped working and when I found this one it was so easy to put in that I didn't need any help from my husband. It simply plugs into the outlet and then tightened down. Replace the cover and I had it installed in five minutes flat. It's working great and I'm pleased as punch with it. It's powerful and does the job perfectly. I'm glad that I found it and that it was so simple to replace. It's top quality and I like the added touch of adding the second cover with it. When this one gets dingy or I pain again, I will have a backup for that new fresh look. Thank you. Great product, awesome quality!!

A work in progress
Amazon shipped this out very quickly and I was not expecting it so fact. It arrive in good shape and the packaging is good. I pulled this out of the box and inspect and start thinking about the installation. The first thing I have to rethink is making a much bigger hole than what than what this fan requires. You can just cut a round hole and slid this in and secure it to the dry wall. Nothing is ever that easy is it. The fan mounts on the wall of the room that is to be exhausted. In my case, this is my office. I want to blow out the hot air into the house where my force air will pick it up and cool it for me (or use this to pull in cool air from the outside by pushing air to my house. That means I need to make a large opening on outside of my office and will install the fan. My wall is a basic partition (2x4 studs and 1/2 inch drywall). I am going to be right at 4.5 inches. However, I have some other things I want to mount and I am thinking of putting up a nice painted board (or something) and mount my wireless router on the board next to this fan on the house side of the wall. I am still thinking this plan through. If I am pulling power down in from the attic I can run one switched line (for the fan) and power my wireless router as well. I am pulling the power from a ceiling fan wall switch not in use.The grills for the fan are just plastic disks that spin on and off the fan once it is installed. It would appear that you can use any kind of grill you want if you don't like the circular disks that come with this fan. It says these can be painted but I see this just becoming a drippy mess if using a brush. There is a lot of surface area and a paint sprayer would do a much better job. I am very tempted to find something else to cover the gfan than what comes with it. There is nothing wrong with them but I might spent a few bucks and find something more aesthetically pleasing. The post on one side extends a little beyond the fan housing and beyond the surface of the wall. A new cover might need to accommodate 1/4 or 1/2 of spacing for the post. Just keep in mind that what ever is installed will become a dust collector and be prepared to clean it occasionally.I am thinking of some speaker grill material and Velcro. It might like nice to have a simple square block of dark material wrapped around a frame that attaches with Velcro to the wall. This would be simple enough to handcraft at home.I plugged in the fan to hear with 3.5 sones would sound like. This is quiet. It is not whisper quite but I already have a floor fan running and this is much quieter and it is simple white noise. Much more quiet than my bathroom fan. If mounting this to the wall creates more vibration noise I will post an update on this. I'm already thinking on the mounting side to use vibration isolating materials to damping the transfer of noise to the wall board. First, I will get it installed and see how bad it is.

Works, noise level controllable with the right switch
Installed these in new construction. Works exceptionally well, and was easy to install. Purchased the corresponding adjustable switch. At full speed, you can hear it, but just a little under full speed it's very quiet. You get most of the air flow, with a fraction of the noise. Adjusts down extremely low, if you just want a constant movement of air.

Works well - A bit loud
working well for me to move heat around - 3.5 sones was definitely louder than I expected.I'm using a variable fan switch to keep sound and check and it's working well for the most part.

Don’t under appreciate all the comments about noise
Practical and works but sounds like an industrial fan. It’s not practical for any room where you need to hear anything (a tv or music or conversation room are out)

Three Stars
Good airflow, little on the noisy side.
