These Filters Promote Health & Happiness For Your Furry Friends
My two kitties are crazy about water fountains. When I first purchased a fountain for cats many moons ago and witnessed how quickly and thoroughly they abandoned their standard stainless steel or porcelain bowls in favor of the fountain, I wanted to know why, so I did a little research and this is what I discovered: a cat most likely HEARS the water flowing from the fountain and it instinctively relates the sound to freshwater flowing in a stream in the wild. The little wisenheimers also can actually SMELL the difference between freshly flowing fountain water and potentially stagnant water resting listlessly in a bowl—even if it is the high-end stainless steel or porcelain variety of containers. Have you ever noticed your kitty pawing at the water in its bowl? They are trying to recreate the action of rivulets in a brook or stream. And they, once again, move instinctively toward the free-flowing water resource over the inert bowl of water—an inborn preference for healthy flowing water instead of possibly bacteria-ridden still water. They also can distinguish the difference in the TASTE between flowing filtered water and motionless bowl water. And one more reason for their preference for fountain water is that the water cycled through the fountain is usually colder than the water in a bowl...and cats much prefer COLD WATER over the tepid kind because it more closely resembles the cool water they would find in a stream if they were in the wild. Sights, sounds, taste, temperature... Were you aware of all these little kitty-cat mini-dramas being played out in the wake of purchasing a fountain for them? I sure wasn't! But now that we are armed with a little background data related to your cat's drinking habits, we can consider the object of this review: The Comsmart Pet Fountain Filter Set. I've owned many brands of pet fountains for a variety of cats and dogs over the years, and the recently purchased Comsmart Fountain is among the best I've provided for my little ones. There are several reasons I rate Comsmart Fountains among the best, but for this review, I want to concentrate on the filtration system Comsmart has developed. The triple filtration system offers an excellent choice for making sure your cats are drinking the safest, healthiest, and best-tasting water possible at a relatively manageable cost. Quoting the Amazon webpage for the product, the Comsmart Value Pack offers "8 filters & pack of 4 pre-filter sponges" that are "individually packaged and sealed to maintain high quality." And relating to the information I laid out at the beginning of the review, the filters are "Composed of a cotton layer, activated carbon, and an ion exchange resin," that will "filter hair, heavy metals, and improve the taste...so that pets can drink clean and fresh water" that is "healthier than other [brands that] only have two filter materials. Our cat fountain filters provide clean, freshwater [for] your pet, which helps to increase water consumption and reduce the risk of urinary tract infections." The filters really are packaged well with your pet's health in mind. Unlike some of the other packages or single filters, these eight filters are individually sealed in plastic sleeves. All one has to do is remove the filter from its sleeve, then most importantly, rinse vigorously but gently in cool-to-warm water prior to nesting it in the fountain. I also carefully double-fold the filter after rinsing to squeeze out most of the residual liquid before I unfold it and place it in the fountain. The manufacturer states the filter should be changed every 2-to-4 weeks. 4 weeks between cleanings is acceptable if there is a single pet in the household, but since I have two furry friends, every other Sunday evening is marked on my calendar as "Fountain-Cleaning Day." Look, it only takes 10-to-12 minutes to clean the entire fountain, including disassembling and reassembling the combination motor and lighting unit, then refilling the fountain with water (I use only bottled spring water for my two incredibly spoiled fur-balls), plugging it back into the wall socket, and watching the kitties rush to grab a quick snort from their spanking clean and healthy "waterfall." This small bit of effort pays off in big ways, helping to keep your little pals' urinary tracts clear, improving their overall environment, and giving you a sense of satisfaction that you are doing right by the little guys who give you so much in return. Oh... And if you are wondering why I only gave the Comsmart Replacement Filter Pack a 4-star rating after such a positive review, it is because this 8-unit so-called "value pack" is priced at $16.99 per box. That works out to $2.12 per filter, which is what I would label "pricey" since the materials that go into producing the filters are plentiful, basic, and very inexpensive, and because I have to replace one every 14 days. Now that's over $55.00 per year just for the filters. And when you figure in the cost of replacement parts for the notoriously short-lived motors (or an entire motor/lighting apparatus sometimes), a gallon of "Deer Park Natural Spring Water" for every cleaning session, plus another gallon, or two, on hand at all times, cleaning materials like paper towels and sponges, I would have felt a lot more comfortable paying, say, $1.10 per filter ($9.00-to-$10.00 per box) as I have for similar brands. But since I take comfort in knowing I am purchasing "within the system" for the little guys who are second only to my actual children, I grit my teeth and accept paying a little more. So please just understand that 1 star was deducted from the rating because of price, not quality. Com-on, Comsmart... Cut us a bit of a break on price so we can all lay a 5-star on ya for a great product!

Pre-Filter Sponges Missing from Box
The 8 filters are fine, standard size, however, there were supposed to be 4 pre-filter sponges in the box but they weren't included.I'm not even able to return this item and reorder as it's ineligible for returns.
