Must have guide when traveling to Istanbul
This is a decent guide if you plan to visit Istanbul for 3-5 days. Not a lot of information to read (and waste time) and provides you with the relevant inflation in concise format. The handy man in the guide has all the attractions listed. These is a nice description of all the major tourist destinations in Istanbul along with their brief description. The booklet also includes a listing of all the famous restaurants, bars, cafes etc. in the city. It also has information about public transport. Four star because it seems a little pricey ! I would surely recommend it.

I have just returned from a weeklong vacation at Istanbul, accompanied by my wife and son. Our trip had been planned several months in advance - I had visited several websites and read a number of books to learn about Istanbul before the journey. I have no hesitation in saying that this book turned out to be the most useful of them all! This is a small book, containing just 160 pages and a folded map. It is necessarily brief, but it provides excellent coverage. The arrangement and presentation are attractive, the photographs are delightful and the index is quite useful. In short, the author, photographers and editors have done a great job. This book is focused on Istanbul city and gives practically no information about the rest of Turkey. However, it will be found relevant by travellers like us, who do not intend to venture out of Istanbul. There are multiple ways of using this book: 1. To begin with, one can simply read this book from cover to cover as a starting point for one's research on Istanbul. Whatever seems interesting can be followed up from detailed books or websites. 2. Secondly, for quick reference, this book can be conveniently carried in one's pocket or bag during sightseeing expeditions. 3. Even if you have carried out detailed research, this books helps you to organise and prioritise your list, without getting lost in a mass of detail. . Coming to the limitations of this book, I had purchased the 6th edition published in February 2017. Some of the information has become dated, for instance, this book talks about two international airports, Ataurk and Sabiha Gokcen respectively. However, now there is a third international airport called simply "Istanbul," which is not covered at all, since it had not opened when the book was published. Secondly, it says that a Museum Pass costs TL85, but the present cost is TL 185 - which means that one buys it for convenience rather than economy. On whole, Lonely Planet Guidebook is an excellent investment for anyone who plans to visit Istanbul.

Ok, still some histories about main attraction are correct but the guide is a bit outdated.
