How to ACE the Bergen Tech and the Bergen Academies Entrance Test

My son used this for the Bergen Tech test and we have just received our acceptance letter. We did not do any prep courses. Just this book, a pretty decent GPA and great recommendation letters from our private school teachers 👍🏼 It was a great book as it walks you through how each problem is solved. My son said there were similar problems on the test and he was glad he reviewed them. ( he was very weary that a 5+ year old book would be relevant but it was)

My son used this book as his resource for studying for the entrance exam. He ended up getting in and told me how the exam included many of the concepts featured in this book. I would definitely recommend this as a tool for studying for the entrance exam.

I got this book from my student. This book is better than Gouda's (subpar, waste of paper). However, this book is not recommended, either, for the following reasons.1. The topics covered in this book are very limited. With these topics alone, your real test scores will be much less than you can expect. It seems that the author just based the writing of this book on the 7 practice problem sets you can download from the BCA website, so the topics covered in this book are limited to solving those 7 practice problem sets, each set of which contains 15 questions.2. The concepts and their explanations are mediocre or lacking. Some important concepts or rules are stated without necessary reasons why they have to work that way. Math is not about memorization. The level of the problems in this book is very basic, far from the level to ace the entrance exam. The problems in this book do not require reasoning skills much. A small portion of the problems in the book are somewhat challenging, but the way these problems are challenging is quite different from the way the entrance exam problems are. The provided solutions are sometimes confusing due to the insufficient explanation or the unsystematic use of mathematical notations. Also, about 35% of this book (100 out of 288 pages) are the practice problem sets you can download free from the Bergen Academies website.3. Overall, I have the impression that this book was published just for making easy money with a minimal effort. It is NOT a valuable book produced by a teacher with an extensive experience of teaching the BCA Prep course for many years. No expertise is found in this book. Don't be deceived by the profile of the author. It is not the profile that produces a great book. I strongly discourage all potential book authors from writing a book in this manner or for this purpose. Obnoxious Materialism!4. Lastly, the price of this book is ridiculous. This book (about 288 pages), if well designed, could be just 100 pages thin and priced at $12. But this book's layout was designed in such a way that the one and a half page practice problem set (composed of 15 questions) downloaded from the BCA website is inflated and takes up 5~6 pages. Do not waste your money.

My daughter studied this book after she did the competitor's book. She found this book way more advanced than competitors book. Her tutor who graduated from BA also said that this book goes through higher level math. Her comments were that the competitor's book was dumbed down too much for kids that are already sharp, and annoyingly repetitive. This book is definitely a cut above, and goes through the tricky kind of questions that the kids will most likely see in the placement test. Money worth spent.Update - 5/31/16 - my daughter got accepted to all 4 schools she applied to: BA, BT, AE, and Holly Angels academies.

Having spoken to the admissions chairs at both the schools, NEITHER recommends this book. There are a number of sample tests posted on the schools' website. Don't waste your money.

I am the parent of the student that is featured on the back of this book, Rusty Murataj, who is now a Strategic Asset Management student at Bergen Tech in Teterboro. Rinald taught Rusty all of the mathematical concepts in this book and practice tests in 3 intensive weeks so that Rusty was prepared to take the exam without having to go through a season long or year long course, which would have cost us at least $500. The book provides solutions of the BCA practice tests, and also has 7 new practice tests which resemble the official tests. So plenty of practice with real test type math problems.

Excellent book! An invaluable resource when preparing for the entrance test. Money well spent. Thank you!
