Tense ending
Loved that the story was so envoy excited and didn’t make it easy to know how it was going to end.

Good
I love Jayne Ann Krentz writing as Amanda Quick but this isn't one of her best. Her historical romances are usually too good to put down. This one is ok

Calista Langley owns and runs an introductions agency, one where she allows select individuals to meet and form friendships.Trent Hastings is a celebrated author of detective fiction, wanting to make sure his sister isn’t being taken advantage of, he looks into Calista’s business, just in time to find her the victim of a stalker. The two of them embark on an adventure to discover just who is stalking Calista and why, hoping to do so before it’s too late.An enjoyable read, it has Quick/Krentz’s trademark humour, along with an engaging historical setting, and a quick paced suspense story. There is plenty of action, plus a few twists and turns in the story, enough to keep you second guessing yourself. An historical romance with a hint of suspense for fans of Quick, and the genre.

A REALLY GOOD AMANDA QUICK ADVENTURE
Calista owns an Introduction Agency. Her brother, Andrew, carefully investigates each client. Then she holds salons where respectable but lonely men and women are introduced to one another. The hope is that people will find friendship and possibly someone to wed.Trent comes to investigate Calista and her agency. His sister Eurdora is a client, and he is afraid that Calista may be taking advantage of her. Trent is a very successful author. His series of books is about a private inquiry agent. And everyone he meets has an idea how the series should be going. When Calista confides in Trent that someone is giving her threatening gifts, and the someone has been in her bedroom. He volunteers to help her look into the situation. He likes Calista and he likes the idea of the adventure.Ms Quick has created an interesting book. Her lead characters are well written and brave. There are villains who are very evil and frightening. As Calista and Trent investigate, Andrew and Eudora involve themselves in the investigation. Everyone has special skills and abilities. All of the lead characters are entertaining. As is usual for Ms Quick, there is humor and wit as well as intelligence and courage within each character. The history of each character has created the people they are as well as their desire to do good. The plot is fast moving and holds the reader's attention. As events progress, we get to know and understand each character, and see how they face difficulties and danger. All four of the lead characters are likable people who are very human.I really enjoyed this book. There are surprises as the pages turn. The reader is taken in different directions, and each journey provides more information about who exactly is behind the threats. If you enjoy adventure and mystery along with passion, this is a book you will enjoy.

Can a mystery writer protect a woman, who has a business bring people together, from a stalker.
While this is darker than many Amanda Quick's books, I enjoyed the twists and turns as well as the characters that inhabit this story. Perhaps I should mention that I do not enjoy novels about the Victorian era (or fiction set in other periods of British history, the single exception is Amanda Quick whose books are populated by women who have professions and are not hindered by the moires of their day. The men who are their counterpoints are also welcoming of strong women they can accept as partners. This novel deals with Calista Langley, her younger brother she feels responsible for, Trent Hastings and his sister Eudora. The story is convoluted because it is not obvious where the threats, to Calista, are coming from. There are at least 3 villains but which of them, if any, are stalking and threatening Calista and how can she be protected when she insists on being part of every aspect of the investigation. I found it interesting that the men keep trying to protect the women while the women try equally hard to keep the men from danger and try to protect them from emotional pain. Some reviewers write about the formulaic style of these stories. But I enjoy that because it allows me to become engrossed in the characters and their personalities. Everything Jayne Ann Krentz is permeated with humor and her writing as Amanda Quick is no exception. For me, that is one of the most enjoyable reasons to read her writing.

A Darker Amanda Quick
Calista Langley supports herself and her younger brother by running an "introductions" agency. She helps lonely people meet one another. However, she has begun to receive some odd gifts - mourning jewelry. That and she feels that she is being watched. She finds herself quite uneasy and that uneasiness escalates when the fortune hunter who threw her over for a rich woman comes back and wants to rekindle their relationship.Trent Hastings has come to her agency, not as a client, but to check her out because his sister has become one of her clients. At first they rub each other the wrong way but they are soon working together to find out who is stalking her.Along the way they find that other young women have received the same gifts of mourning jewelry and were later killed by having their throats slit. Trent, Calista, his sister and her brother are in a race to find the murderer before Calista becomes the next victim.I liked that Trent was an author of mysteries and that his fame provided an entry into the homes of a number of people they wanted to interview. I also liked that everyone had an opinion, which they were very eager to share with Trent, about how the story should be written. This was a darker Amanda Quick novel but very entertaining. I liked the Victorian setting. I also liked the relationship that grew between Trent and Calista.

... to JAK - I was not expecting such a poor story line that was so similar to earler books
What has happened to JAK - I was not expecting such a poor story line that was so similar to earler books. The short one or two page chapters I also found annoying but realised that the format was necessary to make the 350 pages - otherwise the book would have been much much thinner. .In fact it could be said that it had lost the format that makes a book a good read, So many of her earlier novels had all the right ingredients, excellent storyline, great characters, books you just couln't put down. If this is the new style JAK then I for one do not like it

A good yarn well told but no real surprises.
I enjoyed this latest book by Ms Quick. The story was darker than her previous works but otherwise is in her usual style and is told at a good pace with enough twists and turns to keep the interest high and the pages turning. There are many familiar tropes and characters in this book but there is also a good tale. The main women are strong, bold and bright, the men daring and caring. There is intrigue and adventure and of course romance. Yes it is formulaic and there are no surprises really but nonetheless a good yarn well told. 3.5 out of 5 stars for me

Boring
Too much like previous books and characters. Hard to keep reading till the end. But suppose it passed the time.

Come back JAK all is forgiven.
Somehow it was not up to her usual high standard. Normally I cannot put the book down. This time I read bits and came back to it and read more bits and finally I finished it. Never, never, never happened before as I read and reread and have reread ALL of her books.

An enjoyable read
The book arrived as stated and was in perfect condition. I enjoyed the mystery, but the love story wasn't as gripping as they have been in Amanda's previous books I've read. I would recommend it as a good mystery though.
