Surprisingly good, particularly for the price
There's a lot of discussion about various kinds of directional pads on Switch controllers and their respective strengths and weaknesses. I personally rather like the Switch split d-pad, and when I saw the Horipad offered something similar for a low price, I decided to take the plunge. An additional controller would be helpful for multiplayer as well as allowing me to leave the Joycons attached to the system (for single player), but even if the Horipad let me down I wouldn't be out much cash. First, I have to note that the separate directional buttons did not live up to expectations. They have far too much travel and are too far indented into the controller to make their use practical. I gave up on them the first day and put the conventional d-pad attachment back on. And used in that fashion, the Horipad is actually quite good. Sure, there's no rumble or motion controls, but I could just go back to the Joycons if I actually missed them (I don't). It's not wireless, but the cord is plenty long (and sturdy). And yes, the plastic feels less premium than the Pro controller and it's possible to tilt the d-pad in such a way that an "unexpected" diagonal or perpendicular direction is registered, although you'd almost have to go out of your way to make that happen. But for the most part, this is a reliable, comfortable controller, and one I'd easily choose to use over the standard Xbox One (S), PS4/DS4, or Switch Pro controller in any sort of environment where I didn't need to go wireless.

For the price, it’s an easy 5 stars.
It’s a sturdy, decent looking, perfectly well performing wired controller with a very functional turbo function for $20. You really, really can’t go wrong. And it works on Switch and PC. For people confused about PC (Xinput!), it’s not plug and play. Each time you plug it in, you have to hold +, -, screenshot, and home buttons all at the same time for about a second or two. Your PC will make the “bee boop” sound of a device being connected and it will show up in device manager as “Xbox 360 Controller”. Works perfectly after that, including the turbo function. If you need something really good, wireless, and with more features (rumble and gyro), obviously you’ll want to look elsewhere. But for the price, you get a solid extra controller that you’re not going to very very upset about beating up.

A very good controller, but may I suggest something?
Hori has done it again when comes to making good 3rd party controllers. This wired controller is a very nice addition to my collection Nintendo switch accessories. The face buttons, d-pad, and the L and R bumpers and triggers feel very nice to press, very responsive too. The inclusion of a turbo function will definitely come in handy and will make playing my games more fun. However if it's possible, there is something I would like to see from this line of controllers in the future and that of course are video game character themed variants. So far I've only seen basic colors such as red, blue, and black, and all though those variants are fine enough on their own, I would love to see these wired controllers get the Hori split pad pro and wireless Hori pad treatment and be given video game character inspired designs. The two variants I would especially love to see in the future are of course Sonic the Hedgehog and Mega Man. They are the two video game franchises I play the most on my switch, so I would love to see specially designed wired controllers of them. But that is just a suggestion, overall this wired controller is great as it is. I hope Hori will continue to keep up the good work and keep making high quality third party controllers for the Nintendo switch for 2023 and beyond.

Just another great HORI-brand controller & a godsend for Animal Crossing New Horizons players
Initially I bought the HORI-brand controller because of its included turbo button and the fact that it’s a HORI-brand controller—probably the BEST brand for any third-party controller that’s officially licensed with Nintendo. However, I actually got FAR more than what I expected out of the controller. I’ve used third-party controllers before with a turbo button, but HORI yet again somehow manages to blow me out of the water with how much versatility it has. The Nintendo Switch HORIPAD Wired Controller allows you to use the turbo button both to where you can to hold down any button for it to rapidly press it OR you can assign a button to rapidly press it for you. Many other controllers will only do the first part—including the old third-party controller I had before this one. That’s not even the best part! For those who own Animal Crossing New Horizons, this controller is an absolute GODSEND with how useful it is for crafting items faster, purchasing items in bulk faster, wishing upon shooting stars at night, and SO MUCH MORE!! Don’t want to keep mashing the Y button to clean up your beach? Just put on turbo. Don’t want to hold B mash A deal with Gulliver’s nautical nonsense and rambling? Just put on turbo. Don’t want to spend all day mashing A to craft fish bait? Just put on turbo. Don’t want to spend all night mashing A for star fragments? Just put on turbo. THE LIST GOES ON!!! I could talk about it as if it was one of my sponsors on YouTube at this point! Of course, the controller is by no means “perfect”, and there’s a reason why it’s not a COMPLETE substitute for the Official Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. - The controller’s directional pad (D-Pad)—although is appealing in concept—is albeit rather shoddy and mediocre at best since it is easy to pop out and lose the attachment for it. - While it’s not that big of a deal being a wired controller, the wire is REALLY long—way bigger than I expected—just a bit too long in my opinion. - There is NO RUMBLE on his controller AT ALL; this can make a difference in some cases and games—including a minor case in Animal Crossing New Horizons - There is NO amiibo NFC COMPATIBILITY AT ALL; this means that you CANNOT read any amiibo figures or e-cards using the HORIPAD Wired Controller. Those were my only issues with the controller in order of greatest concern to least concern. However, the order of concerns may vary from person to person. Regardless, I think this is a great substitute for the Official Nintendo Switch JoyCons—especially since Nintendo does not repair controllers during global pandemics such as COVID-19. If these concerns aren’t that big of a deal for you, then THIS is the only third-party Nintendo controller you’ll need to get for a long time.

Like most, I had drift issues, and I already had the hori split pad Pro (which are great). I did try 8bitdo and there is quite a lot of input lag. So much that it was a win or lose situation in Animal Crossing and Monster Hunter. This controller is excellent for the price and the d-pad isn't much of an issue as others say it is. Can be a bit annoying in the heat of the moment. The controller does drift sometimes, but I just ha e to unplug it and plug it back in. It's not actually drifting, just being a bit stupid. Other than that it's great 👍🏾
