So far so good
It works! What else can I ask for. I have 2 cats and a dog and for the first time in my life I’m not wading through pet hair.I run it downstairs every day in a space that’s around 700 sqft, all hard surfaces. It takes right around an hour and uses maybe a little over half of the battery. There’s a significant height difference in my kitchen with a large threshold, but he can make it up and over without my help. I do have to empty the bin pretty much every day, but it’s a small price to pay. And the rubber brushes genuinely do not get tangled with hair the way traditional vacuum brushes do. Women and pet owners know what I’m talking about. He absolutely does not run in straight lines, but the base is set against a diagonal wall and my house is not aligned to cardinal directions. So maybe that’s why? It doesn’t actually bother me because he does get like 95% of the total area regardless. If he has to stop mid-job to charge he will pick up where he left of with reasonable accuracy.Highly recommend so far! I’ve only had him 2 months so the jury is out on how long he’ll last, but so far I’m happy and significantly less hairy.

Roomba proof your place first
I like this lil thing. It’s cut way down on the amount of sweeping and vacuuming I have to do. You still need to sweep corners and under lower furniture.Things to consider:It has a voracious appetite for thinner electric cords. It mostly navigates by bashing into stuff so lighter things like floor lamps can be an issue. It will follow you aroundIt does well picking up the fluff from our two short hair dogs.It is LOUD. Can’t run it at night.Sometimes it gets stuck in the most curious places.I highly recommend getting the clean base unless you’re at home and can empty the dust bin every 15 - 20 minutes. All in all I like it.

Helpful but inefficient
I was really excited to find a robot vacuum in my (higher) price range, so I gave it a shot. I REALLY REALLY WANTED A ROBOT VACUUM. I named her Roberta!!! But here's my experience:PROS:- Super helpful for maintenance; set a schedule, and you won't have to remember to sweep up your dusty hard wood floors ALL THE TIME- Actually pretty good at not getting jammed with hair.- Very easy to clean out!- It didn't jump off a stair :)CONS:- It's wraps the hairs round the edge of the rollers, just like a regular vacuum, it doesn't suck them into the waste bin. Maybe as expected, but it's surprisingly hard to see the hair in the edge of the rollers, so you might not know to clean it out until it's too late.- This generation (i2) does NOT have individual room mapping, which I realize now is kind of vital for a robot. It makes more sense to concentrate daily cleaning on high-traffic areas and not the extra bedroom no one has entered in the last 3 months- It started spinning in circles in the middle of an empty room. I googled it, and it said you need to clean the wheels.... the wheels were spotless, no debris, it had finished cleaning and was on the way to its home so it was very weird. Made me think the software was buggy.- It would just stop moving or vacuuming multiple times during cleaning, and just stand still (like it turned off). It was just 4-5 seconds, but it's very often. Seemed like it was processing? Or confused maybe?- It doesn't seem to remember its own map, because it would frequently bump up against things that have NOT moved, not even an inch, as if it didn't expect it to be there. Maybe by moving my trash can 5 inches to the left, that threw its calibrations off?- It cleans the same strips and areas over, and over, and over. I was fascinated by it when I first got it, so I would watch it work..... then I realized it was obsessed with my rug, and the room I keep it in which have very little traffic.- The opening of the dust bin is not even partially sealed, and there are lots of nooks where particles can get stuck in the bottom, so if you flip over the Roomba or tilt it, then dust and debris just slide right out on to the floor again. An example is a little bit of cat litter; really messy when it drops all over the floor when you're trying to clean the machine.OPINION:- It is kinda loud. Scares the crap out of my cat.- It uses its bumpers A LOT, which makes me feel like it's not a very efficient mapper, and will break quickly with how many times it runs into things- It really was good for maintenance, it just doesn't behave efficiently. I feel like it would wear itself down quickly, with how it operates.Overall, I wish it worked a little better (smarter software, better dirt storage) to be worth the SALE price tag of $199. I would not pay $300+ for this version....

Wonderful little machine...
This little i2 (Hal) is my first foray into robot vacuums and I purchased it on the recommendation of a friend who has owned a number of different brands/models, including this one. I live in a 2 BD/2 BA condo with hardwoods and carpet. I regularly swept and vacuumed my place but would always turn around and see a dust bunny or clump of cat hair that blew out of some corner which bothered me and incentivized me to get a Roomba.Going on a month with Hal cleaning 3X a week, I have to say that I'm rather impressed with it. I was a bit worried during the first weeks when Hal was returning to his docking station 3 or 4 times during his runs to let me know he needed to be emptied. I was beginning to think that I was going to be catering to this device constantly and rethinking my decision to buy him. Turns out that even though I try to keep the place clean, Hal is regularly cleaning in places I never regularly attended to myself like way back underneath beds, under dressers and the like. Hal got me caught up on cleaning there. Now Hal needs to be emptied maybe 1.5 times on an average run, something I can live with.Hal does some things wonderfully like map out you living space and making sure to hit each and every corner and under every piece of furniture he can. On the downside, Hal does have issues getting stuck after running up the legs/base of my Barcelona chairs and will go all catawumpus until I go and put him back on a level surface. He doesn't the gradual upward slope of the legs. This happens on low bases of things like floor stand fans too. Hal seems to like to pull at the fringe ends of my Persian carpets too so these get shaken off and put up on an ottoman on days that Hal runs.Overall, I have to say that I'm pleased I bought Hal and feel that the rubber brushes do a dynamite job of picking up hair and detritus from both hardwoods and carpet. Especially carpet. I did have to make sure that charging cords, routers, carpets with fringes are tucked away, relocated or picked but this has helped me to make tidy up things too. If you're on the fence about getting one of these, I'd urge you to go ahead and get it. Ultimately it helps immensely in both maintaining a cleaner home and forcing you to declutter.Update: Several months in, Hal's dirt cannister is ~2/3 full after a complete run of my home. All in all, Hal was a good purchase and I think he'll last a good while.
