What is the shelf life?

I've eaten one of these that was more than 5 years out of date. It was in the back of the cabinet but had been stored under good conditions (not to hot or cold). Carried in a protective container (the thin plastic on top could be subject to puncture), I'd just as soon have one of these as a genuine, military grade, MRE entrée.
