Best YMAA DVD ever made!
I will say, when you buy any YMAA DVD containing Martial Arts content that really inspires you, there's probably nothing thats going to stop you learning it. But Shaolin Long Fist Kung Fu Intermediate Sequences to me, is the best available. Personally speaking I believe this because it contains FOUR Intermediate level Long Fist sequences with Combat applications. In addition Dr.Yang gives lectures on the history and meaning of each sequence aswell as a brief history of Long Fist and Seven Star Praying Mantis Kung Fu. Also included is a lecture on the Shaolin Sun and Moon greeting. Another thing about this DVD is that, unlike other Shaolin Long Fist DVDs such as the Basic Sequences and Northern Shaolin Sword DVD, all the sequences taught in this one have all be refilmed with new performers, instead of having the previously released video content edited onto a DVD. With Nicholas Yang as the new author taking the lead in teaching Long Fist, he thoroughly explains each movement in detail and breaks down each sequence into four parts to make it easier to learn. Along with the Shaolin Long Fist Kung Fu Basic Sequences, Shaolin Saber Basic Sequences, and Northern Shaolin Sword Sequences DVDs , this will enable you to learn up to TWElVE Sequences of Northern Shaolin Long Fist (7 barehand sequences and 5 weapon sequences).I always practice using this and other YMAA DVDs and would strongly recommend this DVD to alot of keen martial artists, who would like to learn one of the best styles ever made by man in history!!!

Awesome! But buy the beginner first!
This is a wonderful intermediate workout! I had watched some trailers of it and thought that I could pick up the intermediate without doing the beginner series taught by the instructors dad. I was wrong, I am waiting for the beginning one to come. This one is still great! Highly Recommend!

Nicholas c. Yang is a great teacher
If you are a fan of Dr Yang, Jwing-Ming then get ready for his son. His speech is easy to understand and movements are more refined for a modern world, this all American young Martial Artist has a lot to offer with this extensive video, solely designed for information, it is not very entertaining, meant for the martial artist who is ready to learn from a professors son. Get ready, this video is a Information smorgasbord on the semi advanced understand of Long Fist Kung Fu.Damian

Eight hours of excellent instruction and information!
"Shaolin Long Fist Kung Fu: Intermediate Sequences" with Nicholas C. Yang is a 446 minute program, contained on two disks, that focuses on traditional Shaolin Long Fist sequences. These forms are basic training drills for a variety of martial attributes, including speed and strength. Nicholas Yang teaches and demonstrates four traditional sequences: Yi Lu Mai Fu, Er Lu Mai Fu, Shi Zi Tang, and Xiao Hu Yan.Before the sequences, there is a guest appearance by Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming. Dr. Yang provides in lecture format, a history of the sequences Yi Lu Mai Fu, Er Lu Mai Fu, and Shi Zi Tang. Using maps and charts with Chinese characters, he explains where they come from and provides background on the sequences. This initial lecture is approximately seventeen minutes long. After Dr. Yang's lecture, the program gets into the instruction with Nicholas Yang. Nicholas Yang is a very accomplished martial artist and he does a very good job of teaching to the camera. Anyone who has read my reviews or seen my DVDs, knows that I prefer instructional programs that actually teach to the camera, rather than just a demonstration, with maybe a short voice over. This DVD delivers. Not only are the moves demonstrated with explanation, but also little extras are included as Nicholas teaches. With that said, it will take several viewings and a lot of practice to make your moves seem as effortless as those you see in this program. This first things taught are basic steps and kicking that are fundamental to the forms that are coming. Once four basic steps are taught and eleven basic kicks, the Yi Lu Mai Fu sequence is taught. Please note, even though these are taught as "basics" that you need to know before the sequences, some, such as tornado kicks, will take a lot of practice to become proficient. The sequences are taught in sections, and Yang uses students to help him demonstrate and teach. Along with the teaching are many useful tips to make you a better martial artist. Then all the sections are put together for the entire sequence. The final portion of the program includes martial applications from the sequence, and Yang points out that he is only providing an example, and not all applications or the only ones. I also like his comments on the art being alive and not stale and stagnant as he advises people to analyze the art and themselves during their personal training. Then the program starts all over with the next form. Basic stepping, Basic kicking, the sequence in sections, as a whole, and then martial applications. This method is used for all four sequences taught in the program.I've come to expect a lot from YMAA DVDs, and this program is no exception. There is a lot of information here. It will take a long time to view and learn these forms, and then much longer to be able to perform them as seen on this DVD. Obviously, we all know that the best way to learn a martial art is to learn in person from a qualified instructor. However, for a variety of reasons, sometimes that is not possible. This DVD is the next best thing to learn these Shaolin Long Fist forms. They also make a great "at home" aid even if you are learning from an instructor.YMAA list this program as an intermediate, or level 2 skill level, and the program was designed to follow the Shaolin Long Fist Kung Fu Basic Sequences DVD and the Shaolin Kung Fu Fundamental Training DVD. For anyone wanting to learn and study these specific forms, this is an outstanding DVD set.Reviewed by Alain Burrese, J.D., author of the Lock On Joint Locking Essentials series.
