The rosewood finish looks rather rough. Is it smooth or rough?

The finish is smooth - the rough appearance is only because of the visible wood grain.

Are any Laguoile corkscrews made outside France?

Yes, this particular corkscrew is made in China. I bought one over a year ago and am satisfied with it. Not close to the quality of ones made in France, however it does the job and I use mine almost on a daily basis.

Is this corkscrew made in France or China

I just received mine. It's very well-made, so what difference does it make where it's made. I suspect it's not "Made in France", otherwise you would have to add $100.00 to the price for no other apparent reason. After all, the Great Wall was made in China and it's still standing! I recommend this item.
