Reliable, Though Pricier
The Canon LP-E17 battery is a genuine, well-made product, offering long-lasting performance. It's the go-to choice for avoiding risks associated with third-party alternatives. While its reliability is unquestionable, I do wish the price was more competitive. Despite this, its dependability makes it a worthy investment for Canon camera users.

Canon V's Canon Copy
A lot has already been said about this battery so, there is not too much I could add except for the fact that prior to buying this one I had bought 2 non branded ones for a little under a tenner and I had a grin like a cheshire cat...meeeow...until I started using them...I had the original battery that came with my 500d but I know from terrible prior expereiences that you ALWAYS need a spare battery...but like most of you, I nearly spat my coffee all over my computer when I saw the average price of the Canon battery...I was fuming...what the hell are Canon playing at charging nearly fifty quid for a spare battery?!...there's more chance of a one legged cat burying a turd on a frozen pond than there is of me paying that for a spare battery!...I was gutted...then as if by magic...I did another search on Amazon and noticed there were a load of non brands...hehehe...lucky me...I can get 2 spare batteries for under a tenner...aint I a clever little boy then?...actually as it turned out No I wasn't...it all started out great...2 new batteries, fully charged and my Canon LP-E5 has just run out...I couldn't wait for it to...I kept doing battery hungry stuff till I finally got it to discharge everything...then I found out that with these new batteries they don't get a "memory" like the old re-chargables used to, so I could have taken it out anytime and slung it on the charger...anyway...I put the first of my new batteries in and I was very impressed...I was flying around the menus, firing off the flash and video'ing my pet bird Lucille the Cockatiel getting up to all kinds of mischief...It was about then that I realised..."I need to get a life"...so I put the camera away for the night and went to the pub...getting back several hours and bottles of WKD later I'm not sure how I did it but I managed to resist the temptation to change all the camera's deep menu settings like I normally do after a few bottles of pop...and then spend the next few days trying to figure out why my speedlight suddenly won't work anymore??...but...bright and early next morning...yeah right!...does 1300 still qualify as morning?...I fired up my 500d and ... nothing?!...dead...my shiny new battery had discharged itself overnight...so...a bit dissapointed I plopped the other one in and was able to shoot with it for the afternoon on a little excursion around sunny Chester...but come next morning...same again this one had drained overnight too...so I realised that I was going to have to kick the one legged cat out of the way and buy a Canon spare...so now I have 4 batteries...bet I don't get caught out with no power...hehehe all the best Boshy.

You can never have too many batteries. £45 is steep for genuine Canon batteries though
