Remover rollerball refill protective cover before using!
The pen refill was fine once I realised there is a protective pink/red cover over the rollerball bit. You won’t get very far without persuading it off. I just put pressure on both sides until it came off. Perhaps a mention of this on the packaging?

Looks genuine and works perfectly
I bought these for the great price, and read some review concerns there are issues with the refills - i.e. I was concerned they may not be genuine, but most reviews were positive. I can confirm that they match my old empty gel refill exactly, and the tip had a small clear plastic blob, which keeps the gel fresh and so it does not leak. It writes amazingly as well - as I remember - so please buy with confidence. I sign a lot of documents and get clients to sign things every week, and so after using a lot of other pens after my old one ran out of ink (and I couldn't find refills in any shop I went to for Cross), I bought these online. Glad I am back with my old pen - I have not found or used a better gel / rollerball alternative.

the cartridges from the last order were deffective and the ink was coming out patchy. I'll give them one more try before switching.

I ordered Cross 8523-2 refills. Supposed to be 1 card of 2 refills for $15.06 ($17.02 w/tax). I received a box containing 6 cards of 2 refills. A value of $90.36, or $102.12 with tax. After spending 25 minutes in Amazon's AI hell trying to find a way to report this picking error, and get instruction on how to return the 5 extra cards, I gave up. So thanks for the gift of $85.10 worth of merchandise. It's too bad that the ink will probably dry out LONG before I'll ever be able to use 12 refills! But maybe Amazon could think about programming its wretched AI systems such that it can do more than offer a bunch of non-applicable options. I finally got connected to a human who told me it is a non-returnable item, so there is no mechanism to send back the extras that I neither ordered, nor was charged for. This is what we have to look forward to in a world run by AI. Love the pen, and I'm sure I'll love the refills. As others have observed, their only downside is the price, and I certainly can't complain about that now.
