The perfect collection.
This box and the small Museum Aquarelle make up the perfect affordable top end coloured pencil collection. Yes, the Luminance are soft but the Museum Aquarelle, used dry, are hard. Difficult not to treat them like gold dust, though, which means you must not be afraid to sharpen them for fear of wearing them down too quickly! These smaller box collections make them more affordable. Perfect colour combinations, especially the 12 Museum Aquarelle.

Worth the money
Absolutely brilliant! So soft and blendable. Even with only 20 colours I’m able to get lovely, smooth skin tones and other colours. These also blend beautifully with the FB polychromos which I bought to extend my colour range without going bankrupt 😂. Deffo buy these whether you are experienced or just starting out like me. I don’t believe that you should buy cheap pencils to practice with-good materials can help to build the confidence of amateur artists like me as it’s easier to achieve the effects you want with quality products. Good paper is also important. Not too textured but also not too smooth. You’ll enjoy using these!

The Rolls Royce of Pencils
The Caran dache Swiss made pencil is simply the Rolls Royce of Pencils. Stunning 3D effects and outstanding, vibrant, explosive Colour can be achieved with these miraculous pencils. Words do not express the sheer quality and vibrancy of colour that one can get with these superior pencils, are they cheap? No! but if you spend the money on these your drawings will have a professional edge and sheen other manufacturers simply cannot hope to achieve. And no breakage of lead...ever,each pencil is a work of art in itself. The box holds each pencil snugly in a rubber mold and is rugged and well designed. A beautiful pencil that every artist should at least try. Absolutely Stunning. If l could give 10 stars l would.

Some of the most vibrant coloured pencils you will find.
Caran d'Ache pencils of any set are not cheap, but they are good. Luminance pencils are some of the most vivid and vibrant pencils going, most of them are a joy to use. Between different colours you can feel that the cores lay colour onto the page different, some of the yellows and greens are more creamy, where some of the blues are more stiff. The difference is the most notable in Luminance compared to any other pencils I have used. I really do reccomend these pencils if you are serious about coloured pencil and mixed media drawing. If you're dipping your toe in to the realms of higher quality drawing supplies I would not reccomend these yet though, you would be better served with Holbein Artists, Faber-Castel Polychromos, Derwent Procolur or Derwent Chromaflow pencils.

Best pencils ever used
These are the best pencils I have ever used. I'm by no means a professional artist, but these pencils have taken my drawings to a whole new level! The colours are beautiful, they apply really well and are really pigmented. What's more, they blend together really well. Definitely worth the money and I only wish I'd purchased the bigger pack! Furthermore, they arrived two days before expected! Even more reason to be impressed.

Caran D’ACHE Luminance 6901 colour pencils
Absolutely brilliant, I bought the boxed set having never used colour pencils before, the photo shows the result of my first attempt, and I’m very pleased. I will most certainly be adding to my collection, and I would willingly recommend them to others.

Not all that buttery.
[I edited this review 16.04.2016 for accurate colour names.] These are fairly new, so they may be a little mysterious to many. The quality of pigment is very good, but this is a wax based pencil, and not an oil based pencil I think. Wax is bound to be harder, and affected by temperature. Admittedly my house is cold. I will be keeping these pencils for their rich pigments as a base to blend with a softer pencil such as Faber Castell polychromo, Derwent coloursoft, Derwent drawing pencils, or even Lyra Rembrandt Polychromos. Those brands are softer and blend with the Luminance colours to acheive smoother coverage, and shading. All the colours are harder than expected, but some of the darker colours give good depth of colour if you press. Rather disappointed. Even at £44 the set is more expensive than the other brands mentioned. Perhaps they'd be good for artists who keep a sharp pencil for thin precise lines. Colours: White, not as visible on the black box as Derwent permanent colour. Black, not soft enough at all to deliver dark enough black to deserve the name. Derwent drawing pencil is better and cheaper. Orange. Very good intense bright and light orange colour. Yellow ochre, great sandy yellow colour. Permanent Red. Comes out a bit pale but is a proper flag red. Russet. Gorgeous dark blood red for lips. Shading for brighter reds. Is halfway to brown. Burnt Sienna. Reddy brown. Fab pigment. Pressure needed for dark colour. Prussian blue. Rich colour pigmented like the watercolour of same name. Lemon yellow, very nice acid yellow, but pale. Manganese Violet - quite a light violet, only dark if you press. Spring green. Very light, almost neon green. Effective highlight on leaves. Grass green. A bit light unless you scrub away. PhthaloCyanine blue. Very intense mid blue. Warmer than Prussian, not toothpasty, proper pigment. Slate grey. Quite soft this one. A mid-dark grey. Raw Umber. olive brown. Colour is true, but it is one of the hardest so comes out too light unless you press. Anthraquinoid Pink. Glowing fleshy pink. Lightish and tinged with peach. Very useful for delicate blush on a cheek or flower. Perylene red. Very nice dark dark red. Deeper than russet and more reddy than burnt sienna. Light cobalt blue. Useful for a patch of sky where you want the blue to be almost invisible. I suppose. (sarcasm) Dark Sap Green. Dark bluey green. Better pigment than the equivalent in Faber Castell, which seems like green and black mixed. Golden Bismuth. Again they've let down the probably rather expensive and permanent pigment in this golden yellow with the hardness of the medium of delivery.

Great product, expensive but worth it!
These pencils are wonderful, they are really nice to use, a light touch gives a good coverage. They blend easily without needing lots of layers. Don’t be put off by the ‘cardboard box’ it is sturdy and has a foam insert so the pencils are protected. I just need to save up for the 76 set now!

Premetto che non li ho acquistati per me, perciò non li ho utilizzati in prima persona, ma é stato un regalo super centrato. Pastelli di altissima qualità, e lo si capisce anche solo dall' odore percepito quando apri la scatola! Visti all'opera appaiono come colori brillanti e luminosissimi. A detta di chi li usa, consiglio l'acquisto!

These coloured pencils are just wonderful in every aspect. Creamy, extremely pigmented and nice to handle. Several pencils are single pigment only, which I think is just terrific. Highly recommended.

Son cremosos y se mezclan muy bien. El pigmento es intenso y se pueden crear efectos maravillosos con estos lápices al dibujar.

I love these pencils! these are creamy and very blendable. The softness is same as FC Polychromos but the intensity of the pigment is amazing! may be that is why they are named 'Luminance'. They look bright and shining on paper. Price is a bit high though. This pack offers limited number of colors so can be used in combination with other brands like FC for artworks.
