Review: Great - Really good cook book great recipes, Pictures of every recipe, It shows it as a big book but it’s small still a great cook book so writing isn’t the biggest Simple to follow recipes Review: Fast Food - Healthy eating - Comfort food - All in One. Simply Magic. - Ken Hom has always been one of my "go to" cookery writers whenever I want a big bowlful of 'healthy eating,' that's also warming, filling, comforting and made in minutes. This title in the 'My Kitchen Table' series may only be a paperback sized recipe book, but it's crammed with simple, easy to follow instructions for Wok cooking. Sections on Chicken and poultry, meat, fish, vegetarian dishes, plus pasta, rice and noodles dishes, and a section on soups, appetisers and sides are all here. They're all seriously easy to make, uncomplicated, fast and delicious to eat. A page for each step by step dish, plus a colour photo of the finished dish - really, this uncomplicated book is a welcome addition to my kitchen windowsill. It can't be left on a bookshelf, because the dishes Ken shows you how to make are simplicity themselves and this little book gets used a lot. Naturally, you will need some 'store cupboard' ingredients, (none of them expensive). I've listed them here as they're pretty ubiquitous in most of the recipes. Light and dark Soy sauce Rice wine (or dry sherry) Sesame oil (toasted is best) Fish sauce Groundnut (peanut) oil (or you could use rice bran oil) Green and Red Thai curry pastes Coconut milk - I usually buy it powdered (can be bought through desertcart) - then I can avoid having to buy cans or packs of coconut milk or cream, and make it up to the concentration I want. A bag of coconut milk powder lasts for ages, works out a lot cheaper than the packs or cans. It's probably taken me longer to do this review than it would have taken to knock up one of Ken Hom's dishes. Hope it's helped!

good intro to wokery
ken hom's 'my kitchen table: 100 quick stir-fry recipes is a handy little book with a lot of good ideas for wok-based cookery. anyone with a bit of imagination can easily move from these recipes into variations of their own. ingredients from the included recipes can be added or removed to make dishes that are perfect for one's own palate. cooking with a wok is as simple as you want to make it or as involved. hom's book is a good jumping off spot for just about anyone. i'm a professional chef who bought this title for a friend and then wound up buying one for myself after looking through the one i gave away, if that's any sort of testimonial.

Excellent little book
Excellent little book, uncomplicated and conveys the essence of healthy wok/stir fry cooking. A good base from which to elaborate to ones own taste, ie in the just meat recipes i always incorporate a couple of vegetables, more/less chilli, extra ginger etc, and with garlic i never put it in first because it tends to burn, I put it in once the first vegetable is in the pan. With this book as a starting point I have gained in knowledge and confidence. By paying attention to each of the building blocks i.e small portion of meat/protein, small portion of veg, small portion of aromatics(chilli, ginger, garlic, lemon grass etc) and the all important sauce element(stock, soy, sesame oil, oyster sauce, cornflour, or combinations of etc), a splash of rice wine(easy to find i,e Tesco), I have produced food way better than I had imagined at the start. I now have a good repertoire of interesting, tasty and healthy dishes and this has come from this book.So glad I got into Chinese cooking, so three cheers for Ken, he de man, and such a lovely smiley chap too! Highly recommended.

10/10
I used the local takeaway every month for 10 years till I got bored of most the dishes. Decided to get this little book as how hard can Chinese cooking be? Well dead easy, quick and the Chow Mein recipe in here is better than anything I've tasted. Granted you need to get a few specialist ingredients from the local Chinese supermarket but they are pretty cheap, keep a long time and are used in most the recipes. For £5.99 it's the same price as one main meal and an egg fried rice!

It is what it says it is.
It is what it says, 100 stir fry recipes . They seem a good selection and the recipes are well written with good photos . They are split into 6 sections, shown with an index at the beginning , with a detailed index at the end. There is no introduction or comment about how to stir fry, so if you need this this is not for you.

Colourful plates for each dish, well set out and suitable for ant level of expertise
My first cookery book for Chinese dishes was a Ken Hom, written some 40 years ago. Many of those recipes are ingrained, so I was really interested to see whether this little book would add to my knowledge. Wow! It's a little cracker. So many recipes, very easy to make with full instructions and ingredients. This is suitable for anyone new to cooking Chinese style; it explains ingredients and flavours and the dishes are seriously tasty and easy. Love this book which has refreshed a lifetime interest in healthy and tasty Chinese food.

Well seasoned asian cooking aficionados will appreciate this well written (and organized) cookbook, as well as beginners will enjoy the comfy step by step directions of each recipe. This reading will save you a lot of time in obtaining the right "Xiang". Tested and approved!

If there is not a good Chinese restaurant nearby, let Chef Ken Hom's easy recipes help you out. A trip to an Asian market for 8 - 10 items will take you thru most of the recipes. Pick up curries, hot pepper, dried mushrooms, fish sauce....and stick to the recipes - they really are easy, and taste great. Hom's recipe for sesame noodles has floated around family and friends for years, so I finally got some of his cookbooks - sorry I waited so long.

Yes! This book is packed with recipes that are tasty, with ingredients easy to buy. They are not weird pieces of food, wondering where on earth I can find them. They are also inexpensive, making the meal affordable. Well worth the purchase.
