Original unit faulty, replacement works a charm
EDIT 23/7/17: I originally left an exasperated one star review for this product after much frustration attempting to get it to work and eventually sent it back. Since then I have been in touch with the manufacturers and I believe that the unit I received was faulty. I received a replacement and have been able to amend my review as follows. I include my original review at the bottom so that if anyone has the same problems they may recognise that theirs is faulty. The second unit I received could not have been easier to set up, in contrast with the original which took over three hours to set up I literally had this one working within 2 minutes of plugging it in! I couldn't believe how easy it was this time!I opened the packaging and was met with the same instructions as before including an addition on how to make the unit work with Alexa; which was the primary reason I bought it. It's worth noting that the little instruction sheet includes instructions on how to set it up with the Alexa app and says you have to set up your region as "United States" and further says that it "Only support the account in the United States" (as pictured). This was the main reason that I ended up sending the original unit I received back. I thought it would never work in the UK. I am pleased to state that this is not the case and it DEFINATELY works in the UK!I include the following to help anyone else who may be having problems.Download the Lombrex app BEFORE plugging the bulb in, in fact download it as soon as you order and create and verify your account so you're ready once it arrives.Plug it in and it the lamp should start flashing, you can then discover the light in the app, rename it as desired and then you can control it. If the lamp doesn't flash when you put it in there are some instructions within the app which should help. Persevere with tho, it took me a long time with the first bulb I received but I did get it in the end. The second bulb I tried worked almost instantly. The app I still have an issue with and it prevents this product getting the full 5 stars. It vibrates when you turn on, off, change colour everything. And it's a heavy vibrate too, not a subtle one like you get when typing on the keyboard. A full on phone shaker! Sort this out Lombrex and I'll give you the extra star! Edit. This has now been fixed and they've got their 5 stars! Now for Alexa, with the first bulb I received I had massive issues enabling the Lombrex skill, admittedly this could have been The Alexa apps fault but whilst in the midst of this frustration constantly trying to enable the app and having to do it over and over again I gave up. I read the instructions about it only working in the US and sent it back. This time it just worked, I enabled the Lombrex skill, linked it to my account and got the confirmation screen. Then the app discovered the bulb and within 2 minutes it was working with Alexa!A few minutes after that I had added to my considerably more expensive Phillips Hue bulbs in a group and can control them all together with my voice! In comparison they are incredibly similar however the Lombrex bulbs do not need a hub to work, they have as much range with colour and dimming although it is a bit different to control within the app. The kicker will always be the price and the Lombrex bulbs are MUCH cheaper. Once installed if youre not too fussed about control when you're not home i.e. being able to turn lights on and off when you're out and about order automatic lighting schedules then the Lombrex ones will do you proud.Having been so frustrated the replacement unit has really changed my mind and I would recommend these bulbs to anyone. The Lombrex team when trouble shooting also sent me a link to this video on YouTube which shows the steps to connect your device:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZr8Kfrf6bUI also made a short video showing the lamp working with Alexa but couldn't upload it here: https://youtu.be/MyO0qc8vLRcOriginal Review:So it works with Alexa? Brilliant I thought, nice price, just what I wanted to create some ambiance to my home. Got it the next day, can't fault the prime delivery.Looks a good solid unit, screwed it in and began following the instructions. They're written in broken English, reading them is a bit like having a conversation with a call centre employee from India, you think you know what they're saying but you can't really understand. After around an hour I managed to set the lights up so that they worked with the app on my phone, I was ready to send it back by that point to be honest but I thought I'd give it a chance. The app is terrible, you can't press a button without tour phone causing an earthquake. By that I mean if you turn the light on tour phone vibrates. Change colour, it vibrates, pick a scene, it vibrates. Very annoying and you can't turn it off.Next I followed the instructions to try and connect with my Amazon Echo, downloaded the skill in the app and tried to connect, kept failing.I did a bit of googling, tried linking through the web browser instead of the app. Turned back to the instrictions, it does say in a tiny little supplement that it works with Alexa in the United States. At this point I swore a bit, unscrewed it, packed it back up and sorted out the return. All in all it shows so much promise, but you can't advertise it works with Alex's if it doesn't. I wasted a grand total of about three hours messing about with this, plus a trip to the post office which made me late for work because it must have been pension day and the queue was huge. I got my refund about an hour after posting the unit back so I can't fault Amazon's return process but I shouldn't have had to, it should have worked as advertised. The very next day I bought a Phillips Hue starter kit for £90 on Prime day and what a contrast, they just work. The set up process took about half an hour and now I can control my lights with my voice, or an app that doesn't register on the Richter scale."Alex's, turn all lights off"

Pain to connect
It took nearly an hour and a half just to connect the bulb to the app. To say patience was being lost was an understatement! However, once installed the bulb has retained its pairing and done all it is supposed to do.Works I but this again? No, whilst it has the huge bonus of being £10 less than the INNR equivalent, unlike the INNR it isn't compatible with the hub meaning scenes can't be set or recalled via Alexa. Some of the voice commands for colour simply won't work and you have to resort to grabbing phone and using the app.The above though is the only real flaw and if you're happy to work from app or don't have a Philips Hue hub then this really is the ideal bulb at a stunning price for you.Colour changes can sometimes be a little jerky or slow but it's barely noticeable, perhaps me being very picky or alert to issues. The app is basic but most importantly it's reliable and it works. Easy to use as well. Although you can't use bulb in or for hue scenes you CAN set up scenes within the app for your coloured bulbs.Overall the brightness isn't as high, or least it doesn't appear to be, as a white hue or white INNR bulbs but that could be trying to compare apples to pears in a wayIf you can live without the hue scene option and want a fairly decent coloured LED bulb at a stunning price then you'll not go far wrong with this

For the price, better value than the Hue
I bought this whilst it was on offer on Prime Day as an alternative to the Phillips Hue lights. I have been tempted to buy a Hue light for a long while and thought that it would be a good purchase considering I could do with a bedside light to sit next to my Amazon Echo. This light is extremely useful, setting up is absolutely fine. All I needed to do was download the Lombex app and load my email address onto an account (trying to pair my mobile number was a bit more challenging as each time I requested a verification code it took five minutes to arrive). To set up all that I had to do was turn a lamp with the bulb screwed in on, then put my WiFi password into the app. Once this was done, I was easily paired up, much easier than I had thought. The light is very responsive to the app and changes extremely quickly, it then has sliding options for brightness and "saturation" (although it is not described as this). In addition it has some preset settings, such as "reading" (which gives a bright white light) and "night" (which gives a dim orange glow). It also includes settings which cycle through colours, although I think these settings cycle far too quickly for me to think they are of any use.The one other feature of the app is that timers can be set, for instance to turn the lamp on (or off) at 8am for certain weekdays, unfortunately though I could not see a way to set it to different colours to match the timers; and no "natural wake" setting which some other lights offer. In terms of hooking up with my Amazon Echo, it is easy to link accounts on the Alexa app. Then once I have named my light on the Lombex app, I can say "Alexa, turn the Bedroom light white" and "Alexa, turn the Bedroom light to full brightness".The disappointing aspect of this and possibly the benefit of the Phillips Hue Lights is the interactivity with IFTTT, at the moment Lombex is not compatible with IFTTT (so some simple things such as setting the lights to come on or off with alarms/timers set on my Amazon Echo cannot be done). All in all this was worth the money despite the small setbacks about setting colour specific timers and integration with IFTTT, and for the price difference between Phillips Hue, this is worth the savings.
