Firearms traps and tools
Not done reading this book yet but it's worth the money , I was looking more for the guns & trapping & the way of the Mountain man than the American history & the big fur company's but so far it's not bad

Firearms, Traps & Tools of The Mountain Men
Excellent book full of useful information pertaining to the fur trade era in North American history. Lot's of decent drawings too. A mountain Man's bible and a absolute must for anyone interested in the era, especially if, like me, you are a historical reenactor!

Comprehensive book on the subject
Very thorough and detailed book on the gear, life and practices of the mountain man period. To be honest it probably goes into more detail than most people would be interested in. Tons of information on tools, guns, traps, indiantrade goods and lots more, right down to production numbers and makers marks on tools and equipment. Even how goods were packed and transported! Very interesting read if you're into the period.

Very informative.
So far this has been a great read. Thanks to this book I was able to go to a living history event and have an intelligent conversation about axes and understood what was being discussed. Just adds another piece to the puzzle of history and how to portray it. While I would like to see photos of the items discussed, I don't know that they would have done the subject justice as some of the items are no longer in the best condition. One also has to consider when the book was written.
