The DSL15C is a compact, all-valve 15 Watt combo that delivers on tone. Powered by two 6V6 power valves and three ECC83s in the preamp, the DSL15C might be small, but its guts are as serious as its big brother, the DSL100H. With foot switchable classic/ultra gain channels, deep switch to boost lower-end chunk, and on the back panel, a pentode/triode switch for maximum flexibility (15 Watt to 7.5 Watt), the DSL15H perfectly combines performance, versatility and value for money. The DSL15C is loaded with a single 12” Celestine G12E speaker, and is supplied with a two button footswitch for channel change and reverb on/off.

Modern tube-amp technology at its best - refreshingly simply to use
I bought this amp combo primarily for home use and in that context it does not disappoint although it is clearly powerful enough to blow the roof off most homes. Its impressive power output aside (can it really only be rated at 15W?), this is a serious tube-amp fan's combo - the sounds it produces are just gorgeous through either clean or overdriven channels with the choice of a bit of reverb thrown in. Using either single coils, P90s or humbuckers it is possible to reproduce truly authentic time-honoured sounds directly from the amp without the use of pedals and without resorting to amp-modelling circuitry - this is modern tube-amp technology at its best - easy to use and sounding fantastic. Switching between clean channel and overdriven channel is achieved by either a button on the front panel or by using the footswitch. The footswitch (which can also control the reverb function) comes included in the purchase - the proper Marshall dust cover, which I consider to be essential, is an optional extra. In this age of banks of switches for everything and layer upon layer of programmable effects that one will hardly ever use, this amp is refreshingly straight forward and unadorned with bells and whistles - it's a guitar player's amp pure and simple - with no facilities for headphones, effect loops, MP3 an all that malarkey. The rear panel allows for: 1) power-cable input; 2) footswitch input; 3) switching between 7.5W and 15W power output; and 4) disconnecting the onboard speaker to allow connection to external cabs. The only thing missing which I would have liked this amp to have is a standby switch. The DSL 15C is of course built like a tank yet it has that classical functional elegance of all the best Marshall products. While I guess this amp would be ideal for a beginner (yes I know beginners often want all the bells and whistles that this amp successfully avoids), I know this amp is also perfect for more experienced players looking for a high quality machine, producing authentic valve delivery which is simple to use and an absolute pleasure to hear. At 7.W and 15W this amp is perfect for home-use/practice and also for small gigs. Buy one - you'll love it!P.S. If you need or want to replace the pre-amp valves in this amp I have no hesitation in recommending the made-in-Slovakia JJ ECC83S - they do an excellent job and seem to be of very good quality.P.P.S. If you are using only one channel it is possible to use the not-in-use channel as a standby if its volume and gain are set to zero - the channel switching switch (or footswitch) can then be used as a standby-switch.
