ALTRAMen's Via Olympus

Plenty of firm cushioning and still stable for walking and running
I have been recovering from plantar fasciitis and needed a shoe that was neutral, stable, zero drop, and cushioned. After reading lots of reviews and based upon my own experience with Altra shoes, I chose this Via Olympus for a great price on Amazon. I read lots of reviews claiming the shoe ran small, ran narrow or had a big arch support, and yet I still ordered my usual size 9 Medium width. I can attest that the shoe fits perfectly with thin or lightly cushioned socks. It's no more or less narrow than the several other pairs of Altra shoes I've had over the years. In fact, it might be a tad roomier. I can't understand the arch support claim, as there is actually very little arch support in these shoes or the inserts that come with them (I use a PowerStep orthotic in mine new Altra shoes, which provides me with just the right support for helping with the plantar fasciitis problem). These shoes have lots of stack height, yet the cushioning is firm while still being comfortable, and the shoe is stable. It claims to have a "rocker" design, encouraging good toe-off, and it does that, too, although it's not terribly noticeable. The shoes fit very comfortably for all-day wear. I loosen up the laces near the bottom a lot, then tie a half not around the tongue loop that the laces pass through. This isolates the forefoot of the shoe from getting tighter, so I can tighten the top of the shoe snugly (see attached photo). Lacing the shoe this way allows for free toe movement, while retaining overall stability. Great shoe!

Very Comfortable!
I am a great grandfather and this pair of shoes is the most comfortable pair of shoes that I have ever worn! Due to many years of abuse to my feet I have a lot of pain for many years now. I have tried numerous brands of shoes and they did nothing for me. WOW, I am very impressed with these men's Altra Via Olympus road running shoes (blue/white). I wear them daily and they are sooo comfortable. In just a short time I have already noticed that the pain in my feet has subsided. I am going to purchase another 6 pair to last me for the rest of my life....... G. J.

Comfort
I purchased these because I walk a lot. They are comfortable first and foremost. Secondly, the toe box is perfect because my toes are not being squeezed. They are lightweight and still sturdy which is another plus.

Comfortable, Cushioned and Lightweight
I bought these shoes because I have purchased and wore 2 pairs of the same Altra Olympus trail shoes, with much success. These road shoes have the same generous toe box that the trail version has but are slightly less cushioned than the trail version. (I wanted a shoe that didn't attract dirt in the sole of the shoe) Don't get me wrong, they still provide the enough cushioning that is needed to satisfy my back, knee, and foot pain. All that being said, I'm very happy with these new shoes.

They are like running on squished marshmallows…
The media could not be loaded. I ordered the Altra Via Olympus road running shoes to evaluate them against my go to max cushioned Hoka Bondi 8. This is the first iteration of the Via Olympus and it has their original foot shape fit which is their widest fit shoe. I wear a 10.5 2E US size and recently picked up a pair of Provision 7’s which have the standard foot shape, but compared to those the Via Olympus feels like a 4E wide to me.Out of the box the Via Olympus weighed in at 321 grams and 333 grams respectively. I was quite surprised by that deviation between the two shoes. Remarkably a recent pair of my Bondi 8’s 10.5 2E US weighed in at 332 and 338. The foam does feel firmer than my Bondi 8’s but definitely plusher than the Provision 7. The tongue is very thick, and the ankle collars are very thick and well-padded also.I've taken them for a 30 minute walk on the treadmill and a short run. The cushioning is much firmer than my go to Hoka's and I was feeling it in my left forefoot. The outsole rubber looks to be less than the Hoka Bondi 8’s but around the same as the Asics Novablast 3. I hope to get them out for a run on the concrete to report on their feel and grip. They are feeling much more like they’ll end up treadmill only shoes. Couple runs now outdoors and they feel like compressed marshmallows. The Altra EGO™ MAX midsole feels nothing like Hoka’s plush foam. In fact it doesn’t even feel as soft or responsive as the foam used in the Altra Provision 7.
