A slower and darker film for the Statham fans
Hummingbird (also known as Redemption) is an action thriller starring Jason Statham as Joey, a down and out homeless person with many issues and problems that he is fighting to overcome. The film is set in London and sees a variety of its different people including the homeless, the missionaries, the criminal underworld, the rich and more. Joey has to find his way in life and when chance comes his way we see him having to decide which way is right whilst he battles his many demons. This film is a dark and slow moving film compared to other Statham films but it is a good watch overall so long as you go in with that expectation.

Jason Statham is down and out and angry on the streets of London.
A fine film with Jason Statham in the role of Joey the Afghan war veteran suffering from PTSD on the run and wanted by the establishment. Statham's Joey has been reduced to a street living underdog hiding and trying to forget his past. He is joined by Agata Buzek as Christina the nun who bumps into Joey while running a soup kitchen.Joey eventually picks himself out of the gutter and tries to put himself right but fate intervenes. Alcohol on Joey has a calming effect. When he is sober and fit he tends to solve problems directly the only way a trained soldier can do - with plenty of violence - before hitting the bottle again.A film that is deeper than your average Statham movie and has some subtle performences from the actors. The film has many generous and well filmed views of central London which adds to the atmosphere of the film.

A cut above the rest
I bought this DVD after reading a couple of reviews on Amazon and having appreciated Eastern Promises very much. Indeed, I was not disappointed.Jason Statham has made a lot of garbage lately... Parker, Safe and The Expendables come to mind.Hummingbird is much better than all of that. It's not wall-to-wall mindless fighting & shooting (so, fans of the above mentioned pics, stay away). It actually has a plot and there are many moral dilemmas throughout which take the story to a much deeper level. Plus, it gives Statham the opportunity to show he can act, and not just kick ass... He can go deep, and not just because he was part of the UK diving team in 1992! (Sorry, bad joke...)A thinking man's action film. If all his movies were of this quality, Statham would be THE action-hero icon of the decade. Sadly, I see he is involved in making more garbage in months to come. He should be remembered in the future for Hummingbird, and for nothing else.

One of Jason Statham's best.
Second hand Blu-ray arrived in good time with no faults. Nice price. An engaging crime tale and well shot. As a Londoner I enjoyed spotting the Soho and Covent Garden locations. Even the Dartford Bridge looks good. There are fight scenes but not end to end. In my view, one of Jason Statham's best.My 90 year old Mum enjoyed it as well.

Really excellent.
Jason Statham films tend to surprise you by being much more subtle, interesting and nuanced than you expect. This one is no exception - all set in central London (so I enjoyed recognising each street), and with a genuinely interesting story line. Exceptionally good!

Fine but nothing more
Good premise but the relationship/dialogue between the 2 main characters is so unconvincing you struggle to get engaged with the film. Neither is a good enough actor to pull off the emotional side of the story.

Not your standard JS film.
Nice storyline that sometimes can’t help but allow JS to take on 5 men at once with Ninja drop kicks. However some touching moments and overall an easy film in front of the fire.

Got bored after first half hour
Meandering opening of film - so switched off after about half hour. Can't recommend it as first half is quite tedious.
