Racer (Real Book 7)
S**N
Racer Tate is here and he's fabulous!
Brooke and Remy's love child! I could not wait to dive into this story to see what kind of man Racer Tate had turned into. I knew this was his story, and he's his own man, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited to scope out the similarities to his BELOVED parents. REAL will always be one of my favorite books because it reminds me of when I started in on this crazy book frenzy, and to see the series come full circle 4 years later is just the sweetest gift.Lana and her family have a failing formula one racing team and they need a driver, badly. So, she sets out on a trip to find a great driver that's needs a team, her team. Little does she know that a little parking incident would lead her to exactly who she needed, Racer Tate. And guess what? He's cocky, moody, and gorgeous just like you'd imagine him being. OH, and there's a dimple too. The attraction is immediate, and I could already tell these two were going to have some feisty banter. Racer also showed some signs of being quite the gentleman, I knew his parents would raise him well! Those little things made my heart happy. From the moment Racer saw Lana he felt connected to her. He knew in his gut that this woman had to be a part of his life. This is where the fantastical writing of Katy Evans comes into play. I'm not a huge fan of Insta-love, but Katy has a way of making it feel real and magical all at the same time. It really FEELS authentic, and the ebb and flow of their courtship seemed so organic mixed with all the great and wonderful things that new love should feel like. The fear, the hunt, the butterflies. I loved it!“I don’t know if I should warn you again to stay away, but what’s the point? I’d only chase you.”Racer Tate is a force to be reckoned with, and just like his father, when he wants something, he gets it. Racer is passionate in everything he does. He has a job to do and he makes it his priority to be the very best. I love the restraint he shows in regard to Lana, it’s not much but he tries really hard! he's broody but sweet, rough around the edges, yet so charismatic. He's the complete package in my opinion, and dare I say he rivals his father's legacy. This guy will make you swoon hard!“Tell me it can happen for me like it did for you. That I can find someone to get me. To take me, as is.”I can't tell you how much I loved these two characters. I fell in love with them almost as immediately as Racer did for Lana. I could not put this book down! I've read other Katy Evans books, and have adored them all. There's something SO different about the Real series, and especially this book. Maybe it's that magical Tate DNA, I'm not sure, but I love it SO much and I didn't want it to end. I could tell that Katy poured her everything into these characters, because I felt it so deeply while I was reading. It was heartfelt and true, passionate and pure. Everything about this book was perfect to me."I’d fight death for my crasher. I’d fight my own monsters harder, every day, for her."The side characters were great like I knew they would be. Of course, we are blessed with the presence of Remy and Brooke, and Racer's sister, Iris. Which had me grinning from ear to ear by the way. But we also get to meet Lana's father and her 3 protective older brothers who I I'm secretly hoping get books too because I’m kind of into this whole racing thing now. This book was everything I hoped it would be, and more! Whether you’re a fan of the series already or a newbie, you will fall in love with these characters like I did, for sure! And this can be read as a standalone. Of course, I recommend the whole series, but it’s not necessary at all. Katy, thank you for writing this story, I didn’t even know I needed that.

Racer Tate, a chip off the gorgeous block!
RACER.F#CKING.TATE. The baby that Katy fans all fell in love with in Mine. The little boy that everyone wondered if he would grow up to be just like his daddy. I think almost as soon as that little boy was born, readers were clamoring to know more and more about him. And we had to wait a bit, while Katy wrote some other books in the meantime. And then we did get to see more of him, in Legend, as a three year old bundle of energy and inquisitiveness. And after that little taste of Racer, it ramped up the reader's want for his story even more.Well, Racer is all grown up now. And yes, he is a lot like his daddy. In looks, and temperament, and drive, just to name a few. But also of the mindset that he will never be able to find a girl that would be able to put up with him. So he's been living his life, doing what he loves, street racing. It's not what Remy wants him to be doing, which would be to follow in his fighting footsteps. But it is his passion, that is, until he crashes into Lana Heyworth, literally.Lana is trying to keep the family's facing team afloat. They desperately need a driver to get them out of the dismal slump they've been in the past few years. This year is their last ditch effort. And Lana takes it upon herself to find a driver for the team to keep her father's dream alive. What she finds is Racer Tate. The gorgeous, cocky, overconfident illegal street racer who tells her he's the best driver in the world. It's obvious there's instant chemistry between Lana and Racer, but this has to be a professional relationship. He works for her family's team, so in essence he works for her. Can they keep it professional? Who am I kidding, we're talking about Racer Tate here. This guy is like sex on legs!! And they are mighty nice legs, too.Katy takes the team on the F1 circuit, with Racer burning up the track daily, and burning up Lana along the way. As much as she fights it, she's having a hard time keeping her feelings at bay, keeping the personal feelings out of the work environment. But she's scared at the same time to let Racer in and let her feelings come to the surface. She's suffered the loss of a loved one in the past, how is she supposed to expose herself to the possibility of love, when it could be taken away so easily again?Racer is a lot like Remy in his singular determination to get what he wants. He's scared too though, of letting Lana in, of letting her see the real sides of him. How can he possibly ask her to take him on, to take on everything that comes with being Racer Tate?I loved how Remy was there for Racer all throughout the story, dropping everything when Racer needed him. And it was wonderful to see Brooke again and to see her and Remy still just as much in love 20+ years later. Having read all of the books in the series, I melted when we got to see all of the other couples in the series: Melanie and Greyson, Reese and Maverick, and Pandora and Kenna with their children.I think readers who have been waiting for Racer's story will be very pleased with it. He is everything I was hoping for and more!!

4 stars and spoilers.... you've been warned!
So Real and Mine were both 6 star reads for me and I was really hoping Racer would be the same. Unfortunately, for me, it wasn't. I wanted to give more stars, but being honest, it wasn't more than 2.5 stars for me in the beginning.I enjoyed the story of Racer and Lana. They're both sweet, and passionate. However, there is too many things in this book that bugged me. Sentences that didn't make sense, that almost sounded incomplete when reading them. Previous character changes that didn't make sense. Three hands? One sentence reads... I want to be better than good. I want to pretend that's all behind me. Pull out my meds. I shove them back into the very bottom of my duffel bag....I'm not sure why he "pull out my meds." (Yes, it's says pull out my meds as a sentence) So I'd really start getting into the story then paragraphs like this happened all throughout and I'd have to read it a few times because they'd make me pause, then I'm not as into it because of the pause.Racer crashes the car, spins in the air three times, completely ruins the car, and walks away with nothing. Not slight neck pain, no complaints of the slightest thing happening to him in the next few pages. AND nothing from his parents. Now we know Remy is very possessive of everything in his life and both he and Brooke love hard... his kids are no exception to this in the beginning.... but nothing. No call, no Skype.... No rushing on a flight to check on their son. In fact, the only communication home in the first half of the story was a Skype call, not even made by his mum or dad, but by Maverick, and his dad stepping into the background.... then his mum popping up for a quick hello.... erm, what? I expected a whole lot more from the family. At one point Racer has a hand in Lana's panties... brushes a knuckle down her cheek and speaks a line to her, then removes a hand from her hip to cup her cheek with his other hand still in her panties.... wait, what? Three hands? How is this possible in one paragraph?Another thing that annoyed me is that it almost seemed like Racer was a cheap copy cat version of Remy... in the beginning he was even referred to as a Lion... No. Just no.So that's the first half of the story. So far I'm not impressed. And then it happens. BAM!! Racer finally arrives. His own person. His own style of intense passion. Just Racer. He arrives and hits me hard. This is when I became truly invested. Racer is now going from a 2.5 star read and climbing to 5/6. Everything about him in the second half of this book is perfect. I love him.So why only 4? Well, I wasn't sure I'd be able to finish the book after the first half and then Racer drove in and ignited my world. As much as I loved the second half, I didn't love the first so not full marks for me. I'm hoping Lana's brothers get books as well as Iris. I was left wondering what happened with Lana's dad and his treatment.... would love a follow up!

Magnificent!!!
There are many books that I can say I love, that I adore and that I have read time and time again BUT there is only one series that can make my heart beat faster and that I quite simply could not live without having to hand.I have read, read and read again the Real Series, so when Ms. Evans announced that Racer, son of the phenomenon that is Remy and Brooke, was being added to the series, my heart almost stopped…totally amazing!Racer is every bit as glorious as his father but he brings more to the page ( if that is even possible) because he has his own sexy edge, that only a Tate can muster. It is often said in regard to children that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree and in this case, that old adage is most definitely true because Racer was definitely his father's son and for me that only intensified the fact that I thought he was simply divine.Unlike his father, Racer hasn’t entered the ring ( although it wasn't for the want of Remy trying to entice him) but Racer's future lies in a totally different direction, one that doesn’t mean he is taking life at a more leisurely pace, nope, not in the slightest, it only means that this guy lives up to his name in every sense of the word.Top dog in the street car racing world, to me it appeared as if Racer had been almost exorcizing his demons behind the wheel of his muscle car but when the super sharp Lana enters his world, he has more than just a potential career change to deal with, because she may not have known exactly who she was looking for, in her quest to help her family turn around failing F1 fortunes but having set eyes on him, she now knows that Racer is her guy (and since my second passion and annual vacation is spent watching live F1…I was in ecstasy at this point!)Much like his father, Racer isn’t one to let his emotions rule him but that doesn’t mean that he is able to keep them under control either, and internally he struggles to rationalize just how he feels about this beautifully confident woman. And again, much like his father, there wasn't a cat in hells chance that he was going to let the best thing to walk into his life slip through his fingers. The intensity of their connection had me totally captivated, they were the balm needed to soothe each other’s souls and that simplicity allowed their story to carry me on a breeze almost. Lana was the perfect antidote to his almost highly-strung personality ( he had his reasons as you will discover) and once he allowed not only Lana but us to see beneath the surface, I fell even harder for them both. When he gave her the earbud for his headphones and they listened together on the flight to Australia, I was catapulted back to Remy and Brooke and I could feel my heart skip a beat.I adored the fact that no matter how fantastic Racer was, he was peppered with self-doubt but then again with the infamous Remington "Riptide" Tate as a father, the world seemed to think he had a lot to live up to. I think it was that external pressure that laid heaviest on him because accepting that Lana could and did love him just the way he was didn’t come easily to Racer but he had to quickly understand that this was a woman that was in his life for the long haul and that brought not only the highest of highs but the most evocative swings of emotion...I adored Lana for nothing other than the fact that she was quite simply perfect for him, much as his mother had been for Remy.As I expect with this author, her attention to detail and the captivating descriptions totally held me hostage.I loved the intensity that she threw into the F1 passages of the book, I’ve stood trackside and felt those emotions, the feel of the racecars thundering past and the roar of the crowd, I could almost anticipate the vibration of the engine rumble through me as I was reading. It completely blew me away! With the whole Tate family present throughout the book, this was more than just a read, I was comfortable, it felt like home and if I could ask one thing of Ms. Evans, then it would be ….please let them stay, I promise I will look after them!!!!!

It was a Pleasure and Joy to Read!!
I was really looking forward to this book, and have it on Preorder because there is nothing Katy Evans has written that I haven’t enjoyed and this book was no different. It was very easy is to expect a carbon copy of Remy, and as I am in love with Remy I wouldn’t complain. Racer has had something Remy never had, a loving family with parents that adored him.Racer knew he was all that from the get go. So with all the love and respect he had been taught for his body gave him a huge advantage over his father’s upbringing. Racer’s supreme self-confidence was a real turn on for Lana and I loved his character. A man whose number one focus is his woman and then his sport.Meeting Lana was the icing on the cake, as he soon as he met her, Lana was it for him. I enjoyed meeting Lana’s gang. Lana was a lost soul who had closed herself off from love. So she was swept of her feet by Racer and it was beautiful to see. I would recommend this to all fans of the Real Series. This is a standalone, but to better understand Racer it is better to start with Remy and Brooke as it helps you can understand and appreciate where Racer came from. Once you start reading the series you’ll thank me anyway. It was a pleasure and joy to read. I’m looking forward to listening to it all again with my new Audiobook.

Good story but not as well written as the Real Series
I really am a little confused by this book because in parts it just didn't feel like the same writer as the Real Series. There were parts that were good and made you want to turn the page, but then a lot of it seemed rushed and unedited. Phrases were repeated within a couple of paragraphs, some sentences didn't make sense and at one point Lana mentions her four brothers, yet there were only three. It could have been so much more - we barely saw the relationship Race had with his parents and as two such fantastic characters, I'd liked to have heard more from Brooke and Remy. I know this book wasn't about them, but they were pretty conspicuous by their absence especially when Race had a crash. Then there was Reese and Mav who just seemed to be thrown into the mix for a couple of sentences, along with Lana's mother who suddenly appeared at the end. I hate to put people's hard work down, but I felt that this book was written too quickly and because it seemed a good way to continue the BBF legacy of Remington Tate, which is such a shame because I was so excited about it. On a positive note, the cover is fantastic and I loved Racer and thought Lana was really sweet.
