Nice stone but far too soft to polish properly
So I ordered this I think on monday, it was due to arrive on friday and was delivered on wednesday, annoyingly I had left the house just 30 or so minutes before and more so because I couldn't get the stone until friday because of post office issues. But shipping and arrival on this item was absolutely top notch, it's just a pity amazon's sort of built in estimated delivery notification guide kinda sucks.First the good - Generally speakingThis is a good quality stone, A nice weight, a grippy base, good size for straight razors, kitchen knives and pocket knives.3000 grit - I love this side more than the 8000 to be honest, the swarf/slurry does a very good job of keeping the stone clean removing particles with ease and at a good rate just above the speed which it develops. It sharpens beautifully and pretty quickly, even on a higher rockwell rated steel, Leaves a very easy to detect burr, which is a little unusual at this grit level. But this does basically show you how quickly it cuts steel. It takes more than the recommended soak time of 5-10 minutes. It took mine about 15 minutes to fully absorb what it needed to.8000 gritAgain this is a pretty nice stone al things considered, cuts quickly and has a lovely slurry, the slurry is perhaps a little too quick and leaves a bit more mess than the 3000 grit, but it does mean it's doing the job and again it does it pretty quickly. The bad -3000 - I can't really say many bad things about this side, I do love it. there is an odd dry patch for a quarter of an inch along the length where the water takes longer to soak in for some reason and I can't understand what this is about. But thats it.8000 - Unfortunately this side does not meet my needs personally. I had asked last week a question about this product about whether it will put a mirror on zdp-189 and got no replies, I decided to try it out because of the discounted price and risk it.Unfortunately I have to report that it does not polish or hone, it really does still cut, which is nice if you want a sharpening stone thats fine but this side is advertised as a polishing stone and it really is not good at this when you have higher end knives.However. I have tried this with a few knives so far and when it comes to softer steels it does polish a little, it gets a sort of frosty mirror finish which is quite attractive in my mind. But that is still not a polish. If this stone was a little harder it might do the job.Overall conclusionI would recommend this stone if you fit the following needs group.Know how to use to sharpen properly and maintain a waterstone.Do not know or care about the rockwell rating of your knvies and what this means.None of your knives cost more than a cinema trip, decent meal and a few drinks.I cannot recommend this stoneIf you have any knives with a rockwell rating over maybe a 60 or 61. For some reason despite the hardness the 8000 stone doesn't polish to a mirror very well.Notes on the included instructions. The paper print instructions were the first thing I cut up upon sharpening the first time. They were written in pretty good english, but really lacking in detail. It covers the basics of sharpning but zero nuance. The free Ebook that is emailed after purchase is a lot more detailed and really should help most people get to grips with sharpening, even relative beginners to this art. It's still not to be considered a sharpening book, Merely a leaflet on basic ettiquette. Some companies trick you and keep a permanent sale price on goods in order to make you think you are getting a better product than you are and I don't know whether that is the case here or not. But based on price alone if you like sharpening. I would pay no more than £25-30 for this stone if I had to choose again. But personally I am going to stick to more well known stones.I am probably going to have to use something like this shapton to get the results I need...http://tinyurl.com/y9yko6xjAfter 2 days - No, the more I use this stone, the less I like it, I wanted to see how it performed on my straight razors and like I mention above, it sharpens, but is a pretty poor polishing stone.Pictures included here, even after stropping to polish it you can still see the scratch pattern of the 8000 grit stone. The first picture here shows the finish on zdp189@64hrc sharpened at a variable 6 degress convex. Smooth but no where near polishing grade.Second and third picture is of straight razor edge, spine part shown. Stropping was done afterwards to polish it. Even after a stropping you can still see the scratch pattern...I am starting to think this stone is a dud. Because with all the positive reviews out there, this product isn't holding up to that reputation.

Great service and product!
I ordered the kitchen wet-stone on the Friday and it arrived the next day. This was sooner than I was expecting - all good. The boxed stone reached me in perfect condition. Having used oil and wet stones in the past I was keen to try it. Following the instructions, I soaked the stone for about 5-10 minutes before using it. I started by using an old kitchen knife who's handle was damaged (not a knife in common use) just in case... I started with the 3000 grit (green) side. I was very impressed with how well the base prevented slippage. The green side quickly reprofiled the blade and then when I turned it over to finish off on the 8000 grit (white) side it gave me a beautifully clean and sharp edge.Satisfied that the stone worked, I re-soaked it and started a fresh on my favorite 7" kitchen knife. I've used several different types of sharpeners in the past, but none of them have been wholy satisfactory. While they do give a pretty sharp edge, the knives didn't hold the edge for very long, due to the angle of sharpening. My 7" knife is now sharper than it has ever been, as too are the rest of my nice knives!I have no hesitation in recommending the knife sharpener, or the seller, both have been perfect!

Excellent range - good quality
This review covers the full range of Bluesun sharpening stones. To really get a ultra sharp blade an to maintain it in tip top condition you need a full range of stones from very coarse to ultra fine grit. If you always start with ultra sharp knives and polish and hone them very regularly you only need the finer grits. However if you have a range of knives (like most of us) that go from dull and very blunt, to sharp and needing only a maintenance polish then you really do need a full range. These stone do exactly that. You need to read and understand the process of how to pre-soak the stones, and start the process of correct angulation of the blade throughout the differing ranges of grits until you are no longer correcting grind angles but are polishing a already sharp blade. These are good quality stones, very well presented and are very easy to use. Not only on knives but chisels and plane blades as well.

I like this stone!
A Japanese water stone - made in China :) but it works well at a fraction of the price. I will be honest and admit I probably wont use this much. For my gouges and "dinged" blades I use a robert sorby pro-edge sharpener and for my chisles and planes I use diamond stones and then power strop on a rouge impregnated MDF disk on my lathe (bit odd I know but watch youtube - it really works well). But this item was so inexpensive (compared to genuine Japanese water stones) that I thought I would see what its like. After all it would be handy away from the workshop, somewhere there was no power. If you don't have other systems this stone will meet most of your needs (well not good for gouges but most other things). You do need a way to keep it flat, I use a 300 grit diamond stone. There is a comment in one of the reviews about the logo stopping you using 1/3 of the stone. Not sure if this was a joke but you obviously use the whole stone and the logo wears off.Its a nice stone - sharpens fast and effectively.
