Review: Great to have the complete series again - Back in the day I bought the VHS tapes as they came out. By the end of the show's run I had two 8 foot shelves filled with the things. Then along came DS9 and then Voyager... I had to stop buying them because they simply took up too much space. When DVDs came along I threw away my old VHS collection and never replaced them... until now. This collection is great. The entire box set, containing all seven seasons, fits into a shelf space 10.6cm wide - i.e. the same as 7 standard DVD cases. As to the content, it's mainly just the episodes, there isn't much in the way of extras. E.g. no commentaries that I've found so far, just the odd special or retrospective on the final disc of the season - but I'm not through all the seasons yet. Picture quality is generally acceptable, a couple of episodes have degraded blacks and have lost some definition. It's hard to believe that such an important show might have been recorded on a lossy video stock! In fact I'm surprised, because I thought ST:TNG was filmed. I guess not. Still, I'm happy - I can watch all the episodes again, and it doesn't cost me 16 feet of shelf space! Review: Outstanding Value - I bought this as a Birthday Present as my husband who is a Sci-Fi fanatic who didn't have this item in his outstanding collection as it was "too expensive to buy before," but this set was at an exceptional price compared to previous prices, so it was a win-win all round.
