A set of 6 graded papers with some very challenging questions
I bought this as a retired teacher, now a private tutor who prepares children for the 11+ and independent entrance tests. I think it is more geared towards the independent schools, whose tests tend to include questions which require some lateral thinking. These papers certainly have those types of question. Each question has a detailed, hand-written explanation, some of which are a little hard to follow, especially for a child. The way the book is printed doesn't help this, as you have to keep rotating the pages. The questions are in 6 graded papers, so only two at each level, and the last two have very difficult questions which seem way beyond most things I've seen on independent school sample papers for the Birmingham, Warwickshire and Worcestershire schools. Maybe there are some schools in London and the South East which expect this level.I would have liked a resource with graded questions on separate topics for practice as the child works up to doing full papers. This would make it easier to target weaker areas. The author does have a YouTube channel where he does useful videos on separate topics.Given that perhaps only two of the 6 papers are geared at the standard 11+ level, this is an expensive resource if you are only entering for that test.

Highest standards- Maths 11+ or Common Entrance
Another OUTSTANDING book by Robert Lomax. All problems are very clearly explained (with examples). You are not just given the answer - Robert has written the method of solving a problem and why and how he got to the answer. You wouldn’t need a tutor OR be Maths expert yourself. Everything is laid clearly out to a very high standard, whilst keeping it simple, for children to understand. If your child is sitting a scholarship exam, those are the books to look into. Robert Lomax is clearly truly passionate about teaching children, not only to pass a test, but to understand why and how everything works.

Excellent book
I have used Robert Lomax books before and it is excellent for anyone preparing their child for 11+. The explainaton given for each question is very comprehensive

Just the right help for an independent 11+ exam
I bought this book to give our 10 yo practice at the type of word problems he was likely to encounter in his independent school 11+ maths exam. The harder papers were very good at stretching him and he did well in the actual exam. As he is an able mathematician we skipped the easier levels so ended up using only around half the book (hence only four stars).

Maths that makes pupils think hard before answering
My son year 6 needed challenging workbook to think hard and use all learned skills at school. Many text books were TOO EASY. Year 7 text books were NOT appropriate as not all covered at school (year 6) yet. This is the ONLY text book that challenges his ability that covered up until year 6 at school. This is the ONLY material that actually makes him think hard, use all abilities to guide himself to an answer with delight. We need more of those. You do not need to study year 7 or 8 when you are year 6. We need more time to THINK, rather than just score high to pass exams.

Ideal for 11+ prep
I bought these recently for the upcoming 11+ as I have exhausted most other material on the market when my older child sat the 11+ exam 2 years ago. My son is at a very mathematically orientated Greater London prep school which is known to have a very tough maths 11+ entrance exam for the senior school. I must say this set of papers is ideal for independent school 11+ prep. The style of maths questions is in keeping with those asked in the real exams but the real strength of this pack is the detailed and helpful answer scheme with full working out. There are 6 papers of increasing difficulty ( and amusing titles!). I have purchased the English 11+ pack from the same author and would highly recommend this series for 11+ preparation, expecially for independent schools.

Fun questions to work on and helpful solutions well laid out.
The author has obviously gone to the extra mile to ensure the questions are fun for children as well as challenging. The answers are well explained and also tells you different ways to solve them, I have never seen this in any other math practice books. My son actually came up with a different/better way to solve one of the questions and it was nice to be able to compare how we can solve the problems with different approaches. He was quite proud of coming up with a quicker solution than the modeled answer.Extremely helpful for kids in taking on math challenges, not just for 11+ or entrance exams.

Generally useful but some very odd content
Have been working through these with my son, who is preparing 11+ exams for fairly competitive schools. The papers seem much harder than most of the other materials we have been using, and some of the (mostly handwritten) explanations are extraordinarily complex, when a much simpler solution was available (and I say this having studied maths to university level). We were lent these, would not buy them. Also some of the text is inappropriate: why set a question on mixing cocktails to 10-year-olds, and add around it an anti-EU joke?
