Bean looking for one of these
Perfect size for a 227g bag of coffee beans with room for a few grams more. 103mm outside diameter 131mm tall. Hand wash only.Mine was a transparent jar (recycle mark PS 6 on base suggests polystyrene, unexpanded obviously) so I can see the beans, with a dark lid and not the solid black jar version so I have to keep the jar in a cupboard to keep light away. For those unfamiliar with the range the fit of the patented lid is so close it will not slide off without pressing the button on the side of the lid to allow the pressure difference created to equalise. It then slides off very smoothly. To replace you press the button to slide the lid back on and the air tight seal is made. The idea for storing coffee beans I gather is you need to let CO2 from the beans out of the container whilst simultaneously stopping oxygen getting in. You can find debates on the validity of this storage theory all over the internet and I don't want to start another one here.I can certainly see how this jar can be effective at stopping oxygen getting in because it is air tight but the CO2 operation is unclear to me. If it's air tight how does the CO2 get out? That would tend to push the air tight lid off. So is there a slow leakage past the valve? is it different to a normal TightVac? Is this why the lid is marked COFFEEVAC and not TightVac? Nothing in the patent (US8231027) on this. Yes I lie in awake at night due to too much coffee thinking about such things.Bought purely on reputation from USA users.

I keep mine in a cool cupboard but would prefer not to have to
I can't see how it allows oxygen not to enter and CO2 to escape ... but it does keep coffee fresh. I can't say it is anything more than an airtight container though. Also, if you were designing a container specifically for the storage of coffee, wouldn't you manufacture it from non-transparent plastic since light is the biggest factor in coffee losing it's delicate flavour? I keep mine in a cool cupboard but would prefer not to have to.

Simple durable construction.
Does what it says. Only 4 stars because for some reason I thought the clear part of the container would be glass. I must have not read the specification well enough, my mistake. Still perhaps it will survive a little longer being plastic! A good product, perhaps a little expensive for what it is but I could not find one cheaper at time of buying so market forces rule! Arrived earlier than expected and well packaged.

Vacuum coffe jar - the way ahead fo quality java
Been using this for a couple of months now - coffee tastes noticeably better than when I used to put it in the fridge. There was a crack in the first one I received, so I suspect it might not survive getting knocked out of a cupboard, but that was resolved immediately by the supplier.

easy to use [compared to vac-u-vin type devices] and coffee ...
Does what it says, though not wholly convinced that it makes an airtight seal - i.e., it is possible to move the cap upwards slightly when 'sealed', suggesting that the vacuum developed isn't perhaps as strong as one might have hoped. That said, easy to use [compared to vac-u-vin type devices] and coffee seems to stay fresh - which is really all that matters.

Such a simple idea
Just the job, but needed a larger container so bought its big brother and passed this one on. Held an average packet of ground coffee but better to buy the larger one for better coffee value.!! Simple but so effective

Great design, good idea
Great design, good idea. They store my coffee great, can't confirm the vacuum effect yet it's a bit too soon.

Great jar. I use it for coffee beans
Great jar. I use it for coffee beans, and it keeps them fresh, whilst keeping the coffee smell from getting out too.
