Excellent copy of a Record vice.....and priced VERY nicely at this time. Castings were a tiny bit rough but nothing that was going to interfere with it's smooth and easy operation. In my case I had to drill out the 2 front cast bolt holes slightly larger to accommodate my choice of 5 inch carriage bolts although 4 inch would have done in a pinch. Someone had mentioned a stiff quick-release arm but mine was silky smooth. Another reviewer mentioned a discrepancy in the mounting points but these are BELOW the mounting surface and do not in any way interfere with the vice's ease of mounting or it's final resting place. A quick greasing of the main gear was all I had to do after I flush-mounted it to my bench. As it mounts beneath an existing bench the thickness of the bench-top needs to be approximately 2 3/8 inch and the cut-back notch for the stationary side of the vice about 1/2 inch or so. Easy to install and rock solid when it's completed.

¡Fantástica prensa! Verdaderamente es una herramienta que no puede faltar en un taller y este modelo en particular superó mis expectativas. Elegí esta versión de 9 pulgadas en lugar de otras más pequeñas por la versatilidad que puede ofrecer en proyectos de muebles grandes, así que aunque el costo es mayor, realmente no me arrepiento de nada. Si bien el diseño original es de otra empresa, esta versión no parece quedarle a deber nada al original. En principio, pensé que no duraría mucho porque algunos de sus componentes son de materiales más frágiles que los ideales, pero le he dado gran exigencia de trabajo y ha logrado cumplir y sobresalir en cada una de las tareas. Posee gran capacidad de presión, las mordazas pueden sostener por si mismas tablones de madera dura de hasta 10 pies sin problema alguno, el pestillo retráctil es muy útil cuando es necesario, los ejes de alineación son robustos y resistentes como también lo es el tornillo de la prensa y su palanca de cierre. Los puntos negativos son pocos y realmente no afectan la funcionalidad de la prensa; es algo pesada (~20kg), pero no es gran cosa, el mecanismo de liberación rápida es un poco rígido para accionar aunque no produce problemas reales, en varias aplicaciones el aserrín se acumula en el tornillo y junto con la grasa es un algo molesto de limpiar y la caída de la palanca de acción es molesta por el sonido que genera, pero tampoco es algo que evite su funcionamiento. Si estás buscando una opción para prensa de banco, este producto no te decepcionará y es de las mejores, si no es que la mejor. Completamente recomendable.

This is everything a good vise should be. It's the definition of heavy-duty. I can hardly believe the sheer weight of this thing. If you need a vise that will last a lifetime- this is your best bet. You won't find anything this good for a better price! I have nothing negative to say about it. Stellar job, Yost. And thank you for keeping it affordable!

Good, solid vice and worth the money I paid for it. It closes smoothly, but the quick release mechanism seems a little stiff. It would be nice if it came with installation instructions, but there are enough websites and youtube videos showing how to do install a vice like this and it was easy enough to install. I've already drilled some holes in my workbench top to take advantage of the pop-up bench dog. Right now i'm using dowels in the holes, but I'm thinking of getting some actual bench dogs from Kreg to see if they could work.
