I recently purchased the CZUR Fancy S Pro scanner, and I am beyond impressed with its performance and features. As a historian and musician, I wanted to find a compact, lightweight travel scanner capable of capturing oversized documents. A small form factor, portability, and high resolution were my chief requirements for research in libraries or archives. I already had a CZUR ET 16 Plus for digitizing documents at home, so I decided to check out its little cousin, the CZUR Fancy S Pro. The Fancy S Pro is advertised as primarily a visualizer and scanner. Others have posted numerous video reviews elsewhere to highlight the capabilities of the superb 12 megapixel visualizer. On the scanning side, the Fancy S Pro can handle A3-sized documents just like the more expensive ET 16 Plus. On the other hand, it did not come with the same document scanning software as it’s bigger relative, which hindered my initial testing. For my test, I set up the Fancy S Pro to digitize a collection of public domain sheet music. The provided software did not allow for automatic scanning or export to PDF like the ET 16 Plus. The Fancy S Pro Quick Start Guide offers the option to download optional Fancy document scanning software for free, but the link took me to a support page that did not list the software. I contacted CZUR Tech Support, and after exchanging some information and a photo, they promptly provided a download link for the Fancy document software. Once installed, I was able to very quickly and easily scan multiple pages, and then export them in a preferred format for archived documents: PDF/A. The Autoscan feature saved me a considerable amount of time that would have been spent fussing with adjusting each sheet for a perfectly aligned scan. The Fancy S Pro does not come with a scanning mat; a large piece of black foam core substituted. In summary, the Fancy S Pro is an affordable, portable visualizer and scanner that can be used in various ways–including historical research. As an added bonus, the styrofoam box that the scanner comes in serves nicely as a compact storage and transport case. The 12 megapixel camera captures excellent video and high quality scans up to A3-sized flat documents. The optional Fancy document software enabled auto-scanning, adjustment for bound materials, and export to PDF. This CZUR product will certainly help you save time and eliminate photocopying expense in libraries or other research centers. For my specific purpose, I would give the Fancy S Pro 4 stars; if a scanning mat were included, the Fancy document scanning software were more readily available, and the Quick Start Guide updated, it would receive 5 stars as the perfect adjunct to your research laptop. Update: A scanning mat is available for purchase separately, and CZUR Tech Support reports they are working the other issues.

I've been using the CZUR Fancy S Pro for about a month now and I am very pleased with its capabilities and versatility. I travel and do research at libraries, historical societies etc. and can set this unit up in seconds and scan all types of materials from books to letters and manuscripts. It's auto focus is so good that I haven't needed to change any settings. The included shipping container serves as a great way to store and transport the unit. I pop it in my computer back pack and the scanner remains safe and sound. I have also found that I can share documents and books easily and have been using it to keep in touch with my grand children in another state by sharing books and reading them bed time stories! The software is easy to install and you have access to all the updates that CZUR makes on their website. I also have the CZUR ET 24 which is more suited for heavier use and scanning large books etc. Together these 2 scanners make a great pair - I use the Fancy S Pro on the road and traveling and keep the PRO 24 at home in the office. The reliability of both CZUR products has been perfect with no glitches to date. The Fancy PRO eliminates my need to make cumbersome hard copies and cell phone pictures that are easily misplaced or lost. I have also found that I can use the storage case as a base to set the scanner on thereby giving me the ability to scan larger documents in a wider field of view (see picture). The CZUR Fancy is a solid scanner all around.
