Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack features 10 ghoulishly delightful songs and score by renowned composer/songwriter Danny Elfman, lead singer of the popular rock group Oingo Boingo. Embracing the traditional musical structure of 10 songs and underscore, Elfman creates a musical landscape in which the story narrative is wholly integrated into each musical number. Allowing the film's fantastic characters to come convincingly to life, the songs set into "stop-motion" the fanciful tale of Jack Skellington with haunting melodies, vivid imagery, and spectacular wordplay. Supported by an evocative and suspenseful underscore, the Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack is a dazzling marriage of music and innovative technique. The film's production numbers include: "This Is Halloween," the song that introduces the storyline; "Jack's Lament," in which Jack expresses his frustration with his life; "What's This?," Jack's exuberant testimonial to Christmastown; "Town Meeting Song," which introduces the denizens of Halloweentown; "Jack's Obsession," in which Jack realizes his newfound desire for Christmas; "Kidnap the Sandy Claws," which unveils Lock, Shock, and Barrel's plan to abduct Santa Claus; "Making Christmas," Halloweentown's off-kilter impression of Christmas; "Sally's Song," a tender ballad of unrequited love; "Oogie Boogie's Song," the evil demon's gloriously ghoulish tribute to himself; "Poor Jack," a song of self-awakening, in which Jack discovers he truly belongs in Halloweentown; and the finale reprise performed by Jack, Sally, and the citizens of Halloweentown.

Great Danny Elfman music! Poor quality vinyl.
Everything sounds great except for one of the records has a bump on it and one entire songs is annoying with the constant hiccup. Otherwise would have got a five.

It's in my car right now
We love all things Nightmare Before Christmas. We listen to this in the car and blast it at Halloween to go along with our decorations. It has never let us down. Works great.

Original Soundtrack from the Film, not a cover version or a poorly done "Anniversary/Limited" Edition!
What if a Holiday had an Identity Crisis? This little question is the very simple and unique premise for The Nightmare Before Christmas, a movie that while as a child I found quite strange and oftentimes creepy, I have grown to love it as an adult and appreciate its cult classic status (I do not condone cults;). The other soundtracks being offered (anniversary editions etc) I actually find to be inferior to this original version due to so many inclusions of covers and taking away from some of the original which is all I wanted. This soundtrack is the original featured in the film (albeit with the additional treat of Patrick Stewart's alternate narration at the beginning and end of the film respectively).Danny Elfman's score and excellent vocals are what make this musical stop-motion film so timeless. The visuals are imaginative but for me it is the music and songs that really makes this film so memorable and loved. Without "This Is Halloween" or "What's This" Jack Skellington might not be remembered as a skeleton king that had a mid-death crisis and his boredom drew him to a strange fascination to be Santa Claws and become King of Christmas at least for a night. Without "Kidnap the Sandy Claws" or "Oogie Boogie's Song" the lovable goofy and quite quirky characters might not be so memorable. One of my personal favorites is the "Town Meeting Song" which sums up the entire humor of the film and the appeal to the story, this song is about Jack trying to (and unable to) describe the wonderful feelings he gets from Christmas town and how beautiful it is. (Yet he cannot describe things as pleasantly as they are and the Halloween folk cannot comprehend it at all due to the fact it being something good. Jack is easily able to describe Santa Claus as a horrible "lobster man" that soars across the sky like a "demon in the sky" yet is unable to describe it in any way that sounds beautiful or appealing except to the Town folk.)This whole soundtrack is playable especially around Halloween and Christmas, but why stop there? Listen to it all around. If you love the film but your friends don't seem to want to see it or can't bear how creepy and strange it (or you) might be, play the soundtrack first (on repeat) and their interest will grow as most detractors of the film can't help but enjoy some of the music. (Personal experience;) This soundtrack finds itself in my car and home and ipod more than is probably proper, and may remain there until I burst my eardrums.

Still Rockin Nightmare Before Xmas in 2016!
Just another 90s kid here reviewing the OST to one of the best movies during the Disney Renaissance. Despite me being a kid at the time, I knew this film was going to leave a permanent mark on me for years to come. Yes, its not your average Disney princess fairytale with magic and fairy godmothers, but I feel that this movie was a haven for those of us who didn't belong to the "handsome prince" bunch. I like a story about people who are broken, empty, and aren't considered "normal" to the rest of the world, but yet they're able to find happiness by finding someone that can just understand and fill the empty voids in each other. (FYI: I'm not one of those emo/gothic kids that live at Hot Topic and are all "ooh this movie's dark" and "love is darkness so let's engrave it in our skins".) >_>So now, this is the NBC special edition soundtrack that comes with two discs. Disc one contains a total of twenty tracks that contain the entire score of the movie back to back in the exact same order in which they appeared. The sound is amazing and I just can't help singing along as they play. It brings the kid out in me again and I believe if anything does that to you, it's definitely special.Disc two, on the other hand, in my opinion is a useless addition to this and the reason why I didn't give it five stars. Tracks 1-5 contain songs from the movie covered by various artists (1. This is Halloween by Marilyn Manson 2. Sally's Song by Fiona Apple 3. What's This? by Fall Out Boy 4. Kidnap the Sandy Claws by She Wants the Revenge 5. This is Halloween by Panic! At the Disco). All these in my opinion were terribly done (especially Kidnap the Sandy Claws X_x) and none of them coveyed the emotion like the ones the movie did. Maybe if they chose different artists?..Idk.The demos were great though, and it was cool hearing Danny Elfman preform since it gives us inside access on how he worked on them.Overall, it's an awesome CD and a must have for all you NBC fans, but I wouldn't pay $30.00 dollars for it either, especially if the bonus disc isn't even worth $5.00. Anyway I hope you enjoy it like I will for years to come.xxPumpkin_Kingxx

A Scaringly Good Soundtrack
After listening to this all day every day since Christmas I can confirm that it is possibly the greatest soundtrack known to man (I could have possibly been brainwashed now). My 2 & 4 year olds love every song and when we are not listening to it, we are watching it on TV! The songs are very catchy and will stay with you.If you would like a soundtrack that haunts your dreams (in a good way!) then this is the CD for you.
