We live in the foothills and see lots of tracks…
We often wonder what type of track we are seeing around our place. We live on 9 acres in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains so we do see wildlife of all kinds. This book is quite complete and includes actual tracks as well as some drawings. Many types of animals are written about in this book.It is a bit expensive but it is good quality with a hard cover.

Excellent Animal Track Book
I have lots of animal tracking books but this new one is the best! I love looking for animal tracks in the Northern US area where I live.

Great for beginners
Everything in this book is thoughtfully laid out and explained well. The pictures are clear and easy to reference. I really just bought this book as a reference guide for when i hunt but i have actually read it cover to cover and have learned some really insightful things. I would recommend this book to anyone who is unfamiliar with tracking and is just starting out. It can be useful for hunters, backpackers, trackers, curious children. Literally anyone can understand and follow this book.

Some of the animals profiled don't have a drawing/pic of their track...
There was a question posted on a subreddit about animal tracks someone came across in the Black Hills. Some people commented that it looked like Mountain Lion tracks. One guy pointed out the tail drag marks, indicating it wouldn't be a Lynx, as someone had suggested. I got excited to use my recently purchased Tracker's Handbook to compare the picture to the drawing/picture of a mountain lion tracks. To my astonishment, there was no drawing/picture of mountain lion tracks. Seems like kind of an important part to leave out of a tracking handbook...

Disappointed
Disappointed in the amount of tracks in book. A Field Guide to Animal Tracks by Olaus J. Murie is the gold standard. Doesn't matter what edition you purchase. If you are interested in purchasing a book about animal tracks then please purchase the gold standard.
