Zippo Yellow Flame Pipe Lighter Insert

Yellow flame pipe insert works great once you get it in the casing. It fills easily with butane. The flint rolls pretty smoothly without too much effort, though I am getting a callous on my thumb! The flame comes out the side for lightning my pipe. That works.The only problem is it’s made for right-handed people and I am predominantly left-handed, but I can’t ding them for that. You have to use your right hand. I am adjusting!

Zippo reached out and let me know that air can get trapped making the lighting inconsistent and hindering a full fill. They instructed me to poke the filling valve until all of the contents were emptied, then to refill with butane. It’s best to empty it completely before refilling. (By the way, the flint-looking thing at the end of the spring IS NOT THE FLINT. The flint is separate and loose. Newbie mistake. I also replaced the flint.)Thank you, Zippo! I’m back to loving my lighter. ❤️)Previous review: I was hopeful for this product. When it was new it took two to three tries to light, and just got more and more inconsistent. Now it stopped working. I’ve filled with zippo butane, checked the flint… nothing. It’s also not wind proof like other zippos. I wrote to zippo a week ago and have heard nothing from them. I’ve gone back to using my lighter from the dollar store. Save your money.

I was in the market for a better quality refillable lighter than the kind you get at the gas station, so decided to give this product a chance, and so far so good. I use it multiple times a day and like how durable it is and that it fits into my old sleeve like a glove. I gave it 4 stars due to it not being an adjustable flame, and the flame being pretty big for a pipe lighter. Also due to heavy use I have to refill it often. Overall I'm happy with this purchase and to support a trusted company.

It's not clear from the product photos, but there is only one hole from which the flame can exit through. This means that it has to be held in a very, very precise way otherwise the flame will find your thumb every time. It's a good idea very poorly realized.If you want a butane lighter to be used for a pipe, go for the standard butane soft-flame insert. That insert is well-engineered and long-lasting. If you want a pipe lighter, just bite the bullet and use the standard fluid pipe lighter insert. Contrary to what the hipster down the street told you, it doesn't impart any flavor to tobacco.But for any real application, the butane pipe lighter insert is a hard pass, every time.

Great insert that works great.

I bought the standard Zippo pipe lighter and it doesn't allow you to easily draw the flame down into a tobacco-pipe. So I got this insert and it works better. Only it has no flame adjustment. So most of the time the flame isn't large enough to allow lighting of the tobacco in a pipe. It only works well when freshly filled. To date...it still always lights up upon the first strike. I do wish Zippo would redesign it; adding a flame adjuster. Also by making a change to the lighting mechanism/button of this butane insert. So that a fuel valve opens when the lid is opened. Instead of having to hold down its button below the flint. This new design, for the valve, would shut when the lid is closed. So...add the ability to adjust the flame and redesign the fuel valve.

This saved my relationship with Zippo. I got their classic liquid-fuel lighter with pipe insert. It's a classic. However, every time I went to have a pipe, I knew I'd have to refill the lighter. The fuel would evaporate out. Sadly, I ended up using a cheap Crocs lighter because it just worked. Butane is a wonderful thing. When I heard that Zippo came out with a butane cartridge especially for pipes (with an angled flame) I had to try it. And I LOVE it. My lighter can sit for weeks on end and when I pick it up again, boom, it lights. That's what a modern lighter is supposed to do. Now I've got Bic reliability combined with Zippo style!

Got this to go in my glow in the dark zippo for smokin herbs.... 😂 😂 This out the side insert is friggin awesome! And I love that I can use butane and not nasty fluid. These inserts are the best thing zippo could've done and this one is great for me stoney needs. Dunno about cigars.... But for bowls, it's pretty incredible!
