Great book for martial artists
All of Sensei Demura's kobudo books are excellent, and this one is no exception. Being inexperienced in the use of the kama, I resisted buying this book, but it finally got the best of me and I ordered it. I have more than 50 years practicing karate, but my style does not emphasize the use of weapons. However, I have learned to use some of the Okinawan kobudo weapons and have found Sensei Demura's books invaluable. Now I can learn something of the use of the kama. When I was in the military, I was taught that the use of the bayonet was less effective than the THREAT of using it. I think the kama is much in the same category as it is a very intimidating weapon. Very few attackers without a firearm, of course, would dare approach a skillful user of kama. Should an adversary continue his attack, the results would be devastating for him. Nevertheless, it should be understood that a pair of kama is not something that one takes along for a stroll in the park or on a city street!

Excellent introduction to kama.
I would recommend this book to any martial artist who is interested in expanding their knowledge and proficiency with traditional martial arts weapons. The photographs are high quality and the explanations are clear and detailed. The content is a nice balance between the traditional use of kamas as a weapon and use of kamas in competition (kata).
